For years, we’ve held our breath waiting to see what two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali and visionary director Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) would build together.
The duo was famously set to bring Marvel’s highly anticipated Blade reboot to life. But as the superhero blockbuster fell into a notorious cycle of script rewrites, production delays, and director exits, culminating in Tariq stepping down and the project stalling indefinitely, many feared we’d never see them join forces.
Thankfully, our fears were wrong.
Amazon MGM Studios has officially released the first teaser trailer for Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother, an upcoming action thriller starring the two-time Oscar winner.
Directed and written by Tariq, the project positions Ali at the absolute center of a high-stakes, blade-wielding survival story, effectively launching the acclaimed actor into a definitive, one-man-army action era.
The film follows Latif (played by Ali), a devoutly religious hitman who struggles to find balance between his lethal career, his personal faith, and his responsibilities as a father.
When his wife suddenly dies, Latif’s world is thrown into chaos. Forced to embark on a perilous, desperate journey across Houston, Texas, he must protect his children from the violent forces closing in around them, while simultaneously fighting to keep his own deeply held beliefs from unraveling from within. Armed primarily with a blade, Ali’s character must slice his way through hordes of violent adversaries.
Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother might initially sound abstract holds a profound and beautiful significance deeply rooted in Islamic tradition.
The phrase is a direct reference to a famous Hadith (a collection of sayings of the Prophet Muhammad). When a companion asked the Prophet who among people is most deserving of their good treatment, the Prophet replied, “Your mother.” The man asked, “Then who?” and the Prophet answered again, “Your mother.” When asked a third time, the Prophet repeated once more, “Your mother,” before finally answering, “And then your father” on the fourth query.
Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Tramell Tillman, John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Tiffany Boone, Laith Nakli, Adia and Jahleel Kamara.
Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother is scheduled to debut in select theaters on September 25, before expanding to a wide theatrical release everywhere this October.
