  • Passport Stamps…The New Luxury Item

Christ Redeemer As much as people don’t want to admit it, we are a showboat society. We always want to show we have the nicest car, the biggest house, and the most money to post on Instagram! Well now there is a new “thing” we compete with…Passport Stamps. Traveling is everyone’s dream. The idea that you could purchase a ticket and go across the world to escape from your day-to-day routine, forget about your worries and just enjoy what has been created. Normally this never happens and it’s put off year after year. Especially for people who live in the United States and take a quick trip to the Caribbean and think that counts! I’m talking about a real trip. To me this consists of a flight longer than 6-hours. Back in the day flying across the world meant that you were either a business professional, rich, or worked your whole life and now don’t care anymore and want to see the world. It’s interesting that people envied travelers who were able to talk about their trip to Rome or Paris or Mykonos, Greece. Mykonos, Greece Well, fast-forward to the 21st Century and if you don’t have a passport you can’t sit with us. There are more and more people showing off their passport stamps as if they had a draw four in the game Uno. Young professionals are realizing that there is more to the world than what’s in their backyard. With sites like TravelNoire, we are constantly thinking of what trips we should take next and what selfies we can take with a certain 7 wonder in the background. Paris, France The truth is, with how competitive airlines have become and the amount of travel sites offering better deals than the next one, there should be no excuse why you are not planning your next international excursion. I always check out CatchGIfUCan to get the latest on flight deals and travel decisions. When traveling people are becoming less interested in the touristy scenery and more enthused with how the locals live and enjoy life. For instance not just staying on the beach all trip but going to the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Traveling has become a lifestyle. Favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil In 2016, pull out a map throw a dart at it and just GO! Inside the Vatican. Photos from recent trip to Rome. Photos from recent trip to Rome. Ancient Ruins. • He Who Wears The Pant…

In the past 5 years, it is becoming increasingly popular in the western world for men to don garments like kilts, sarongs, or what they’re all perceived to be in the eyes of the fashionably unconscious, a skirt. One of the first notable people to wear them in recent times, was acclaimed fashion designer Marc Jacobs. A couple of years later, Kanye West performed alongside Jay-Z sporting a custom designed Riccardo Tisci kilt. This controversial move was met with acclaim as well as ridicule, mostly the latter. Spike Lee even performed a parodic rendition of Kanye in a kilt that in a sense made a mockery of the notion of a man wearing anything close to a skirt, specifically a black man. There is a profound disdain for any man that chooses to wear something that is deemed feminine within the black community. But why? Why do people judge a man for wearing a skirt, or kilt, or whatever, when wearing pants is a European construct that started around the time of the French revolution? Who makes the rules? Entertainers such as the late David Bowie, Jared Leto, Marilyn Manson or even Vin Diesel have all worn skirts and were considered “groundbreaking”, but when a black entertainer wears a skirt, it usually comes with backlash that attacks their masculinity. This harsh criticism comes from within the hip hop culture. The skirt is no longer a trend, it’s a fresh silhouette for men. A man wearing a skirt isn’t exactly a new concept in the world of fashion, however, society seems to have a distorted yet singular view of what a black man is and should be, when we are as assorted as any other race. Maybe one day soon these people will embrace diversity over divisiveness. Until then, wear your kilt or skirt or sarong with your head held high, as a MAN! • LeBron Working out with Wade Shouldn’t get you Bent out of Shape

One of the game’s greats paired up with a good friend last week in an effort to prepare for the much lauded 2016 NBA Playoffs. According to the Sun-Sentinel, James was asked by multiple reporters why he went to Miami last week to work out with Dwyane Wade, one of his former teammates. What the media is alluding to, as well as the comments on social media, mostly made by dissentious fans, is all false propaganda. Yes, LeBron didn’t play in a regular season game against the Washington Wizards—but he worked out, to changeover into Zero Dark Thirty mode. Do we forget San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich repeatedly rests Tim Duncan to save him for the playoffs? Pop resting Duncan isn’t a recent trend, unless you’ve been under a rock, rather, it’s been going on for years. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr just rested Steph Curry against the Atlanta Hawks. While it is true Curry sprained his ankle against the Oklahoma City Thunder the previous game, he did, in fact, come back in the very same game, and manage to drop a measly 46 points. So did Kerr really rest Curry because of his ankle? Or did Kerr want to rest the player who is having the most spectacular season of all current NBA greats? Granted, it is obvious, why people disagree with LeBron working out with his close friend, former teammate in Wade. Let’s layout the obvious: LeBron used to play with the Heat and they won two NBA championships together. Though, in 2010, LeBron left the Cavs in a bittersweet fashion, announcing his decision on a show entitled “The Decision,” he still managed to come back to the city that cultivated him a few years later. But, while in Miami, it would be disingenuous to say LeBron didn’t establish some impeccable bonds while winnings championships. One of those bonds is with Wade, who was drafted with LeBron in 2003. So we shouldn’t act as if LeBron and Wade have never worked out together, before. It is well documented that Wade and LeBron have become brothers, so to see the two working out together shouldn’t be of a surprise. “In 2010, we decided to come together all for one goal — to win championships and we succeeded,” Wade said to the New York Daily News. “We were friends when we first joined the league and created an unbreakable bond the past four years. Our collaboration will always be very special to me both personally and professionally. We shared something unique and he will always be part of my family,” Wade said to the New York Daily News.” One could consistently watch the NBA and quickly figure out the league is like a fraternity. And, quite honestly, this makes more sense when comparing the league with the other leagues simply because those leagues have substantially more players. Any NBA enthusiast should know Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan are very good friends. Would it behoove someone to think those two former greats didn’t reminisce about old times amid the NBA season? I don’t think so. Oh okay, I get it, we are in the social media era, right? Baby boomers and even those younger, should get over the use of social media. After all, your children and friends are teaching you how to use it, because, yes, you are infatuated with new technology. Simply put, in the end, and this goes for all generations, fans care more about rivalries than players do. So don’t expect NBA players that you love to watch to impose internal strife amongst each other. Just enjoy watching the game and neglect any player social media use. (Laughing out loud) The Miami Heat didn’t make the playoffs last season, but the Cavaliers journeyed all the way to the NBA Finals, where LeBron averaged 35.8 points, 8.8 assists and 13.3 rebounds. • Introducing Fashion Editor Mickey Boooom

Mickey Boooom was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His instinctual creative flair has had very early beginnings and there’s no ending in sight. The juxtaposition of growing up in a rough environment, coupled with his attention commanding personal style, created some internal turmoil early on. Though well-liked, the frustration of feeling like he didn’t belong gave birth to his need to make the world more beautiful, which is as strong as his need to breathe air. There are many facets to his sartorial expertise, however, for the past three years he has primarily been a wardrobe stylist for men and women who are in search of an innovative intervention, as he playfully calls it. Spearheading visual schematics for models, artists and other intriguing people enables him to convey his view of the way the world should be, could be, or would be, without burdening viewers and clients with the weight of reality. Mickey Boooom is heavily inspired by history, but driven by the future. Growing up, he has always been inspired by 1990s fashion, movies, and musicans like Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, and the late The Notorious BIG. He was also inspired by post-war fashion movements. His favorite fashion designers are ones that embodied the Belle Epoque we call “the 90’s” like Gianni Versace, John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier. While most of his time is spent in New York City, he does make time for traveling. Being an avid traveler, Mickey Booom has traveled around the world and has experienced many different cultures. “There is always an air of obscurity when I refer to anything that might inspire me” He says. This allows him to easily incorporate fresh new ideas into his work. He uses various social outlets online to display some of his work while interacting with other creative people. You can find him on Instagram @Mickeybooom and VFiles. As the Fashion Editor of The Quintessential Gentleman he will keep you up to date with the new and up-and-coming fashion trends, fashion shows, fashion events, fashion styling, history, shopping, and other exciting fashion news. His Styled By Mickey page will serve as a heavy influence on men’s fashion, assistance helping to give a name to up-and-coming fashionistos as well as bringing retired fashionistos back to life. Presidential Nominee Clinton won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Presidential Nominee Trump won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia. By looking at the states that both winners share in victories you can see that this will be a very critical election. Many may dislike Donald Trump for his outspoken personality and some may say unruly comments but the truth is that there are a lot of people who agree with him and are out there supporting him. There has yet to be a speaking engagement hosted by Trump that he has hosts that there was not a packed house. Hillary Clinton may seem to most to be the favorable candidate due to her affiliation with the current White House Cabinet but it will be a long way to November! On February 24, Pastor Mitchell Jones celebrated a new chapter in his own personal journey to becoming his true self. He was joined by friends and fans during an intimate sit down with T’Marie (It’s T’Marie Radio) for the official book launch of “The Journey to Authenticity: 8 Steps to getting the life you Desire”. You may remember Pastor Mitchell Jones from one of the most groundbreaking episodes of “Iyanla: Fix My Life” on OWN tv. The emotional, three-part episode, focused on the coming-out stories of two gay pastors. After the show he took bold steps toward confronting and confessing the truth after years of keeping secrets. Mitchell was inspired to write “The Journey to Authenticity” as he realized that the journey to authenticity and freedom was costly, yet worth it. He wanted to communicate that message and the process to many that were following a similar path. This book will help any person that recognizes the need to move toward authenticity to become all that they are to be in the Earth, but are challenged by situations and circumstances that make it appear easier to remain average. Guests mixed and mingled through the evening while sipping on personalized cocktails from Mitchell Jones like “Get Yo Life”,” Heart’s Desire” and “Preacha Man“. Guests also had the chance to cherish moments from the evening with keepsakes from Say Cheese Atlanta who kept the photo booth experience live throughout the evening.
