  • Guinness Celebrates Turning 200 with a New Beer

Last night, the Irish Dry Stout style beer, Guinness, celebrated a 200-year relationship between a brewery and a people: Guinness and America at The Root in New York City. This was the perfect time for the Guinness brand to release the limited-edition Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout. “Two things have always been at the heart of the Guinness brand since our founding in 1759: brewing great beer and sharing our story,” said Emma Giles, Guinness Brand Director. “When we started brewing beer for America 200 years ago, that story became a shared one. Now, every time you share a pint with someone else, another chapter begins.” Attendees enjoyed their favorite Guinness Taps, a Guinness Coffee Infuser, Nitro Ice Cream and Live Music. • ‘Project Runway’ Fashion Designer Mychael Knight Dies

Georgia fashion designer Mychael Knight, who was a finalist on the popular TV competition show “Project Runway,” died Tuesday at age 39. Knight died outside Atlanta surrounded by family and friends, said friend Jerris Madison, the editor and photographer of Obvious Magazine, a fashion, lifestyle and cultural publication. An official cause of death has not been released, but Knight had extensively shared his five-year struggles with irritable bowel syndrome, writing in now-deleted Facebook posts that he suffered chronic abdominal pain, a “leaky gut,” extreme fatigue and exhaustion. “He was innovative, unapologetic, kind and giving,” Madison said of Knight. “He made sure that anybody who was in his core circle, his family, his friends, didn’t have to want for anything. He was just an amazing man.” Knight appeared on Season 3 of “Project Runway,” which aired on Bravo, finishing fourth that year. He returned for “Project Runway All-Stars,” finishing eighth on the show that now airs on the Lifetime network. “We are saddened to hear about the passing of a member of the Project Runway family,” said Lifetime spokeswoman Dee Perez in a statement. “It’s a loss of a great talent and we wish his family peace and solace during this difficult time.” Knight spent his childhood in Montgomery, Alabama, but graduated from Washingtonville Senior High School in Washingtonville, New York, in 1996. Later that same year, he began his freshman year of college at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. In 2001, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in apparel design and merchandising. After completing his undergraduate studies, Knight broke into the fashion industry in Atlanta by working as an intern at Wilbourn Exclusives in 2001 before becoming a fashion stylist in the music industry in 2002. In 2006, Knight became a contestant for “Project Runway,” and went on to win that season’s fan favorite award. The next year, he introduced his label, Mychael Knight, on BET’s “Rip the Runway” and he designed a line of custom tees for the Starbucks Corp. In 2008, Knight launched Kitty & Dick, his lingerie label for men and women, and his unisex fragrance, MajK. Madison said “Project Runway” definitely helped expand Knight’s brand, which caught the eye of celebrities like Toni Braxton, Sheri Shepard and Eva Marcille, who ultimately became his clients. “His name was still on people’s minds,” Madison said. “The industry is very competitive, but he continued to do it his way.” Madison said Knight, who had been living in Los Angeles, was always sharp and chic in his personal style and that carried over into his collections. “He died doing what he loved,” Madison said. “And you can see that in his final collection presented (last month) at New York Fashion Week. It was amazing. The industry has lost a true innovator. Mychael was just getting to that point where people were saying ‘Hey, I remember this guy.’ He was about to be huge and really wanted to capitalize on affordable sportswear for women of all sizes.” In addition to his parents, Michael Sr. and Pamela Knight, Knight is survived by two sisters. “Mychael meant everything to us and we loved him dearly. He was generous and so full of life. This is how we choose to remember his legacy,” the family said in a statement. Funeral arrangements were pending. • Actor Travis Demetri Talks Starting in the Industry, Branding Yourself and More

How did you get your start in the industry? Well, I started acting back in high school in Orlando. Then I moved back New York to train at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. You are seen covering events. Who have you interviewed who have inspired you the most and why? I have spoken to several people. So it’s hard to just pick one person. However, I get inspired by ‘then and now’ stories. Meaning, ‘back then I was living this kind of life and now I’m living this way.’ kind of stories. That gets me motivated to step up my game and get this bag. I have always wanted to be an actor. It’s weird because growing up I never liked to do school Christmas shows or anything on stage but I was always acting a fool at home. So when I was in high school I decided to just say f*ck it and take a drama class. That’s how I actually starting acting, back in high school. I just gained more confidence in myself. Are you working on any projects coming up? Right now, I just wrapped Steel River in ATL with Signal23tv (which is on YouTube, Vimeo, and Roku), and I have a commercial on-air. Other than that, I just have my hands in different things with film projects, hosting, and working with a few brands. In your expert opinion, what are three ways to brand yourself? 1. Show off your best assets on all social media. If you’re going to be on social media, use it to the highest potential. Use it to show off your talent. What is it that you’re good at and just show it off. However, not in a braggadocious way. 2. Attend events relevant to your world. Be around the people who share the same interest as you. You can gain a lot of connections by attending events. Not all events. It doesn’t make sense for a boxer to be at Comic-Con. You have to be strategic. 3. Be authentic and connect. As long as you’re being genuine with what you believe in and the message you’re trying to project into the world, someone is going to relate to you. You can’t build a brand without no connection. What can we look forward to from Travis Demetri? I like to move in silence. I do have some film work that will be coming out soon that I’m kind of nervous about. I’m always nervous when something comes out because I want people to like it and I always try to out do myself. It will definitely show a different side of me. • 112 Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary with New Album

Twenty years ago, Diddy introduced a hot new R&B act with the vocal ability to dominate rhythm and blues while simultaneously complimenting hip-hop. The group consisted of Quinnes Parker, Michael Keith, Marvin “Slim” Scandrick and Daron Jones also known as 112. The group’s first single “Only You” featuring the late great Biggie Smalls was the perfect introduction to solidify the group’s ascension into R&B royalty and they followed up with hit after hit for years to come. Now after six years of touring, 112 has a brand new album titled, “Q Mike Slim Daron”. The heavily anticipated album is being celebrated with a 112 Takeover week in the group’s hometown of Atlanta, GA. 112 Takeover week kicks off Monday, October 23rd with a press conference at South Atlanta high school where all four members will be honored with the Phoenix award at their alma mater. The takeover week culminates in a city-wide community fair and concert which is free and open to the public. Besides vendor booths, family-friendly activities and food trucks, there will be a free concert with popular local acts with a close-out performance by 112. “It’s a blessing to be able to come back after almost twelve years to fans that are excited to hear new music. This new album is a more personal look into our lives and of course, 112 started in southwest Atlanta so we thought what better way to kick this off than with the community that supported us,” Daron says. “We are looking forward to sharing this new album with home first and then, of course, connecting with fans across the country,” Slim explains. “Q Mike Slim Daron” is the first release for the group after an eleven-year hiatus but all four members have had the opportunity to work on personal projects and endeavors over the past years. “I think that’s what makes this so special coming back after we’ve all done our own thing and had different levels of success but, we all realize that the true magic is with the four of us together,” Q says. We are ready for this new album! Will you be streaming it? #112 #BadBoyMusic #OnlyYou

  • Hill Harper, Mayor Kasim Reed, Dr. Jackie Walters Attend the 5th Annual “50 Shades of PinkR

Last night, the 50 Shades of Pink Foundation, founded by award-winning OBGYN and tv personality Dr. Jackie Walters, presented its 5th Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Atlanta City Hall was immaculately transformed into a pink wonderland of chic decor, as over 200 guests – dressed in 1920s flapper-style attire – filled the Atrium to celebrate the breast cancer survivors and supporters featured on the runway. The event began with a heartfelt poem by Hank Stewart followed by welcome remarks from Atlanta Municipal Court Judge and honorary event chair Terrinee Gundy and 50 Shades of Pink Foundation executive director Gary Andrews. Andrews then introduced the evening’s host — actor/author/philanthropist Hill Harper, who shared his story of being diagnosed with cancer several years ago. The fashion show opener was a lively tap dance routine by Chloe Arnold’s Syncopated Ladies, after which, dozens of beautiful models strutted the runway in designs by Linda Bezuidenhout and Bramer Leon. The sight of the models – many of whom were recent cancer “warriors” – was inspiring and illustrated the foundation’s mission of catering to the emotional well-being of breast cancer patients and their families. After the fashion presentation, Hill Harper and Dr. Jackie led an auction to find individual donors to sponsor the 50 Shades of Pink Gift Baskets that the foundation provides to breast cancer patients. Then, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed closed the program with a surprise check for $20,000 to the foundation to further their efforts to bring comfort and care to breast cancer survivors. Special guests in attendance were Atlanta City Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms, “Married to Medicine” stars Dr. Heavenly Kimes,  Mariah Huq, Curtis Berry and many more.< Sponsors of the 50 Shades of Pink Fundraiser were Ford Motor Company, The Cochran Firm, Jack Daniels, and All N One Security Services. Special thanks to event producer Eboni Cummings, S.T.E.P.S. Events and the City of Atlanta. To learn more about the 50 Shades of Pink Foundation click here.< Photos by Marcus Ingram #50ShadesofPink

  • High End 2017 Fall Fashion Looks

Fall is definitely here and there are many ways to make statements during this popular fashion season. It’s time for layers, denim, and statement-making coats. We wanted to introduce you to some fall pieces that you might not have seen but are definitely going to make you stand out from the crowd. We also decided to make this a high end fall fashion list. Bomber and denim jackets are definitely not new for the fall but when they are well made and on trend, we will absolutely point you in the right direction. This black and white Givenchy bomber jacket might be a bit unexpected because of the color. Often times bomber jackets come in army green but why not change it up this fall with this “Logo Back Knit Bomber Jacket”. This varsity inspired design will have you looking fall ready! Plaid is always right for fall. We often see it in the classic red and black which is often associated with the lumberjack aesthetic. We decided to offer an alternative color choice with this Phillip Lim “Plaid-Panel Henley Sweatshirt”. It’s a casual look but slick and fashionable at the same time. The plaid arms are just enough plaid to stay on trend for this fall look. With this next look, we get bold with this Gucci “New flora technical jersey print”. Gucci has recently been going strong with bold and colorful prints and motifs. These pants are apart of Gucci’s Fall 2017 collection. The original print was created by an Italian artist. Gucci says “it has since been presented with a new point of view by intensifying the print’s femininity and appeal in new colors”. The pants also have a matching jacket but they also have been styled by themselves. We think this look will add to your fall wardrobe in the best of ways. Get to shopping fashion lovers and tell us your favorite looks. #Balenciaga #Fashion #Givenchy #PhillipLim
