Taye Diggs is playing the villain. The actual villain, and by the look of the trailer, he is committed. Tubi has dropped the first trailer for Stepfather, a new original thriller premiering exclusively on the free streaming platform on June 19.
Diggs stars as Darnell, a man who has spent years murdering families that fail to meet his standard of perfection. When he meets Asia, played by Tamar Braxton, and her daughters, he believes he has finally found the real thing. He has not.
In the film, Diggs plays a charismatic man who enters the lives of a mother and her children with seemingly noble intentions. However, the polished exterior quickly cracks to reveal a controlling and dangerous obsession. The story centers on his character’s desperate need to mold his new family into a flawless unit, and the violent lengths he will go to when they fail to meet his impossible standards.
Stepfather is directed by Chris Stokes. Diggs and Braxton lead the film alongside Kalani Jules, Jessica Jarrell, Janeline Hayes, Dante Brown, Troy Brookins, TJ Shaw, Koda Kalani Beschen, and Elizabeth Dantus.
