Tristan Thompson shared a long hug with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate, Kevin Love, ahead of the Heat-Cavaliers playoff game on April 28, following the heartbreaking news of Love’s father, Stan Love, passing away.

The two shared a moment with Thompson comforting his grieving friend before game four of the series.

The emotional embrace, caught on video by Bleacher Report, showed the bond between the two as Thompson wrapped Love in a tight hug. Love, clearly moved, appeared to wipe away tears as they exchanged a few words after the moment.

The affection shown by both men reminded us of the importance of emotional support, especially in times of personal loss.

Thompson and Love were teammates on the Cavaliers’ 2015-16 NBA Championship roster, and their friendship has remained strong over the years. In a 2020 interview, Love referred to Thompson as a “lifelong friend” and someone he would “run through a wall for.”

Kevin Love, a 17-year NBA veteran, had been absent from the Heat for much of April due to personal reasons, and though he didn’t play in the playoff finale, he attended to support his team.

Love shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram for his late father, remembering him as his “first Hero” and a “Giant” who fought until the very end. His emotional post spoke of the complicated but enduring relationship he had with his father, acknowledging their differences but also recognizing the deep love that bound them.

The basketball community quickly rallied around Love, offering support and condolences. NBA stars like Kevin Durant and Isiah Thomas shared their tributes, with Durant remembering Stan Love as a “great man” and Thomas recalling fond memories of staying at the Love household.

Sending our condolences to Kevin Love and his family and friends.
