The 2025 Grammy red carpet took an awkward turn when Grammy-winning producer and R&B legend Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds was abruptly cut off mid-interview by Associated Press reporters Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria, who chose to pivot their attention to pop star Chappell Roan instead.

The moment, captured on camera and quickly circulating online, sparked outrage on social media, with many criticizing the disrespectful treatment of a music icon.

In the now-viral clip, Babyface is seen answering a question when the reporters suddenly shout for Roan, cutting him off. The 13-time Grammy winner, known for his composure, handled the situation gracefully, saying: You guys wanna do that? Go do that.” before walking away as Roan stepped in.

Fans and celebrities condemned the reporters’ actions. Dionne Warwick took to X to express her disbelief, posting the clip with the caption: “13x Grammy Award-winning Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds? Am I seeing this correctly?”

Other users pointed out the lack of respect given to industry veterans versus newer artists, questioning how a trailblazer in R&B could be dismissed so easily. Some even called for media outlets to be more mindful of Black artists’ contributions and to show proper respect to music legends.

Facing backlash, Ambriz and Fauria issued an apology on air, acknowledging their misstep. “We deeply regret how the moment played out and sincerely apologize to Babyface for the interruption,” they stated.
