Lewis Hamilton on His Ferrari Move: ‘Don’t Ever Compare Me to Anybody’

Lewis Hamilton is entering a new era in his legendary Formula 1 career, and he’s making it clear that no one else can be placed in the same category as him.

In a recent interview with Time magazine, the seven-time world champion spoke about his move to Ferrari, the unique path he has carved in the sport and addressed his critics.

“Don’t ever compare me to anybody else,” Hamilton said. “I’m the first and only Black driver that’s ever been in this sport. I’m built different. I’ve been through a lot. I’ve had my own journey. You can’t compare me to another 40-year-old, past or present, Formula One driver in history. Because they are nothing like me. I’m hungry, driven, don’t have a wife and kids. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning. That’s my No. 1 priority.”

Hamilton’s transition from Mercedes to Ferrari for the 2025 season is one of the biggest moves in Formula 1 history. After 11 years with Mercedes, where he won six of his seven world titles, the British driver is looking to reignite his championship-winning form with the iconic Italian team.

His departure from Mercedes signifies the end of an era—one that saw him dominate the sport. While Mercedes provided him with record-breaking success, Hamilton now seeks a fresh challenge at Ferrari, a team with a storied legacy but one that has struggled to win a championship since 2007.

Hamilton’s career achievements are unparalleled. He holds the record for the most race wins in Formula 1 history, along with pole positions and podium finishes. His seven world titles tie him with Michael Schumacher for the most in history, and his influence transcends the sport.

Beyond his on-track dominance, Hamilton has used his platform to advocate for diversity and inclusion in motorsport, establishing initiatives to increase representation for underrepresented groups in F1.

Hamilton’s impact isn’t limited to the racetrack. He’s also stepping into the film industry as a producer for the upcoming Formula 1 movie F1, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. The film, backed by Apple Studios, is set to bring the high-octane world of Formula 1 to the big screen with unprecedented realism, featuring real F1 cars and teams in its production.

At 40 years old, Hamilton remains as determined as ever. His statement in Time reflects his unwavering focus on winning, making it clear that he’s not interested in comparisons or distractions. Ferrari, known for its passionate fanbase and rich history, is betting on Hamilton’s hunger and experience to deliver long-awaited success.

With a new chapter ahead, Hamilton’s journey with Ferrari is poised to be one of the most exciting storylines in the sport. Whether he adds another championship to his name or not, his legacy as one of the greatest and most influential drivers in history is already cemented.
