CNN is set to debut a three-part original series, Kobe: The Making of a Legend, celebrating the life and legacy of Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant.
The series will premiere on Saturday, January 25, at 9:00 p.m. ET, with new episodes airing weekly.
The series takes a look at Bryant’s extraordinary journey—from his childhood in Italy to his record-breaking high school career in Philadelphia, and eventually, to his legendary 20-year tenure with the Lakers.
Through interviews with former coaches, teammates, family friends, and basketball icons, the series will uncover the personal and professional challenges that shaped Bryant’s historic rise.
“Five years after his passing, we are honored to share the story of Kobe Bryant—arguably one of the greatest and most competitive professional athletes of all time,” said Eric Johnson, Executive Producer for CNN Original Series. “While his legendary career on the court is widely celebrated, this series explores some of the lesser-known dimensions of his life. We’re proud to present a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Kobe and the complicated journey that shaped his legacy.”
The series will feature interviews from Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady and Sheryl Swoopes, New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson, and former Lakers trainer Gary Vitti, among others.
Kobe: The Making of a Legend will look into Bryant’s unrelenting drive, his complex personality, and the challenges he faced off the court, providing a holistic view of the man behind the legend.
