Trell Thomas has built a reputation for creating spaces where Black excellence isn’t just acknowledged, it’s celebrated. And on June 8, he took that mission to a new setting, swapping the Sunday brunch format for an intimate evening gathering in Los Angeles that honored one of daytime TV’s most culturally significant moments.

A Toast to Black Excellence, hosted by Thomas and co-presented by CBS Studios and P&G, brought together talent, executives, influencers, and industry leaders at Stu Space LA for an exclusive celebration of Beyond the Gates, CBS’ daytime drama that has steadily grown into a cultural force since its debut.

“Black Excellence Brunch has always been about creating intentional spaces where people feel seen, valued, and celebrated,” Thomas said. “Partnering with CBS Studios and P&G to honor the incredible success of Beyond the Gates and the legacy of daytime television was a meaningful opportunity to bring together creatives and changemakers who continue to move the culture forward.”

The evening served as more than a party. It was a recognition of what Beyond the Gates represents, a Black soap opera carving out space in a daytime television landscape that has historically lacked that kind of representation. The invite-only gathering highlighted the show’s recent renewal, an upcoming crossover event, and its growing influence within the genre.

Beyond the Gates cast members Brandon Claybon and Karla Mosley were in attendance, joined by familiar faces from CBS’ daytime roster, including Peter Bergman, Susan Walters, Linden Ashby, and Sean Dominic of The Young and the Restless, as well as Lawrence Saint-Victor of The Bold and the Beautiful. The evening also welcomed Tabitha Brown, Novi Brown, and That Chick Angel.

Guests enjoyed curated experiences and conversations that Thomas has made a hallmark of the Black Excellence Brunch brand, a movement he founded in August 2017 that began as a local gathering and has since expanded into a global celebration, touching everything from the landscapes of Martha’s Vineyard to the streets of Ghana.

With Beyond the Gates continuing to grow its audience and cultural footprint, A Toast to Black Excellence was a timely reminder that representation in daytime television isn’t just a win for one show; it’s a win that opens doors for generations of storytellers to come.
