Kickstarter is doubling down on its support for the creator economy. Following the August launch of its $1 million Kickstarter Culture Fund to back independent creators across art, fashion, film, and music, the crowdfunding platform has officially unveiled the Kickstarter Fashion Advisory Board.
The newly formed board taps five of the most influential figures in contemporary fashion to mentor, guide, and champion rising independent designers: Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada, Raul Lopez of Luar, Brandon Blackwood, Recho Omondi of The Cutting Room Floor, and Milton Dixon III, Stylist, Creative Consultant and Fashion Ambassador at Kickstarter.
Together, they represent a cross-section of independent design, brand building, fashion media, and cultural storytelling.
Through the end of 2026, advisors will guide creators, support media engagement, contribute to shared content, and help independent designers find funding opportunities through the Culture Fund.
For Kickstarter CEO Everette Taylor, financial backing is only part of the equation, connecting emerging designers with real-world industry experience is what builds long-term success.
“Independent designers are shaping culture, but often face challenges finding the resources and support to bring their ideas to life and build sustainable businesses,” Taylor said. “The Kickstarter Fashion Advisory Board builds on our commitment through the Culture Fund by bringing experienced voices and meaningful connections into that journey. We want more original ideas to have the opportunity to break through, and more designers to have the support they need to build lasting businesses while retaining ownership.”
Courtney Brown Warren, Chief Marketing Officer at Kickstarter, said the board brings the company’s Power of Belief campaign to life through voices who understand what it takes to build independently.
“Power of Belief is rooted in the idea that creativity moves forward when people believe in each other,” Brown Warren said. “Building on the Culture Fund, these advisors bring guidance, perspective, and connections to help more designers find their community and bring their original visions to life.”
Creators working across fashion, art, film, and music can apply for direct financial support from the Kickstarter Culture Fund while their campaign is live or their project page is still in draft, and selected campaigns receive contributions that help build momentum while retaining full creative ownership.
