Tyler Perry is expanding his empire yet again, but this time, he is focused on lifting up the next generation of storytellers. The media mogul has officially launched Maxscene, a brand-new specialty label under the Tyler Perry Studios umbrella.

The division is entirely dedicated to expanding theatrical opportunities for independent filmmakers with distinctive voices who often struggle to get their projects in front of audiences. The new label will serve as a distribution and support home base, providing the necessary infrastructure, backing, and pipeline to take independent films from completion straight to the big screen.

It will be overseen by Antoinetta Stallings, Head of Development and Acquisitions at Tyler Perry Studios.

The name “Maxscene” is named in honor of his mother, Maxine, whom he credits as the driving force behind his legendary career.

“Everything I’ve built in my career carries my mother with it, and Maxscene is named in her honor,” Perry shared with Variety. “My mother, Maxine, believed in me before anyone else did, and that belief is the reason I never stopped chasing this path. Maxscene exists to be that same source of belief for the next generation of storytellers. It’s about taking the confidence and encouragement she poured into me and paying it forward by championing filmmakers who need someone to believe in them, open the door, and help them reach the audience waiting on the other side.”

In an industry where securing distribution can be the hardest battle an indie creator faces, Maxscene is stepping in to close the gap. Rather than letting incredible stories get lost in the shuffle, the label aims to give filmmakers a true launchpad.

“I’ve spent my career working alongside filmmakers and watching incredibly talented storytellers struggle to find distribution for films that deserved to be seen,” Stallings said in a statement. “That’s why launching Maxscene is such an exciting and necessary moment. We’re creating a home where independent filmmakers can build a career, not just release a movie. Maxscene gives creators the resources, support, and a path to distribution so their films have every opportunity to reach the audiences who may not have otherwise discovered them.”

With Tyler Perry Studios already boasting a massive 330-acre lot in Atlanta and a track record of producing thousands of hours of content, this new venture is a game-changer for independent storytellers.
