Mara Brock Akil‘s hit YA romance drama Forever is officially moving into post-production after an extensive 80-day shoot that took the production from Los Angeles to Martha’s Vineyard to New York City.

Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Akil shared a message to fans: “We just wrapped season two of Forever. 80 days we’ve been producing this from LA to New York. I love it.” Netflix is targeting a 2027 release for the eight-episode second season.

Adapted from Judy Blume‘s classic 1975 novel, Forever built its first season around the intense high school romance between Keisha Clark, played by Lovie Simone, and Justin Edwards, played by Michael Cooper Jr. Season 2 jumps four years forward into the post-pandemic summer of 2023, finding Keisha and Justin living separate lives, navigating young adulthood, real jobs, and new relationships, until an unexpected reunion puts them back in the same space.

The question the season is built around is one most people have lived at some point: what happens when you run back into someone you never fully let go of?

Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. return as leads alongside series regulars Wood Harris, Karen Pittman, and Xosha Roquemore. The cast also includes Malaika Guttoh joining the main cast as Ameena, with Avery Wills Jr. recurring as Jaden and Tre McBride recurring as Elijah. Behind the scenes, Grammy-winning producer Khris Riddick-Tynes comes aboard as executive music producer alongside returning music supervisor Kier Lehman. Executive producers include Akil, Regina King, Susie Fitzgerald, Reina King, and Erika Harrison.

Forever Season 2 has entered post-production and heads toward a 2027 arrival on Netflix.
