The Chi

Showtime's hit show will make its on-air debut on Sunday, May 12, at 9 pm ET. After the announcement, fans have been raving and eager to see what they have in store this time around. The series is still in production and there is so much to unpack in the final eight episodes of Season six. There will be so many twists that fans will be left wanting more after tuning in each week.

Emmy-winner Lena Waithe, the creator and executive producer, along with others, created The Chi as a story based on the lives of a group of people living on the South Side of Chicago. They form a bond through a combination of trials, tribulations, and the everyday obstacles that African Americans face living in a city filled with violence, crime and poverty.  When the premiere of season six aired on August 6, 2023, it broke records and made history ranking among the top of all SHOWTIME premieres via streaming viewership.

From the very beginning of Season six, fans witnessed the aftermath that season five left behind as Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) are still trying to adjust to their blended family dynamic all while Douda (Curtiss Cook) is trying to simply find his way as Q’s murder is still fresh and heavy on his heart.

Even the new city councilman Victor (Luke James) must deal with his troubled past and how it could impact the decisions he makes for the city. To add to an already action-packed sixth season, newlyweds Jada (Yolonda Ross) and Darnell (Rolando Boyce) are concerned for Emmett because he has now made a life-threatening move, which could very well lead to his demise if he is not careful.

The first half of the final season also saw Rob (Iman Shumpert) and Tiff’s (Hannaha Hall) cannabis business take off and Jake’s (Michael V. Epps) even saw his apparel line start to take form. Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.) falls in love with an older woman all while trying to keep his faith as has just lost his father. Kevin (Alex Hibbert) gets the opportunity of a lifetime in Los Angeles in the gaming industry, but during his big break, he leaves behind a close friend to figure out their next career move.

The chemistry between the castmates has been nothing less than phenomenal and so well-balanced that seeing the growth of each character has been such a masterclass to watch. While the series continues to show the hardships that are deeply rooted in the South Side of Chicago, it also tells a story of how you can either let your surroundings dictate your future or you can create the future you want.

The second half of the sixth season of The Chi premieres on Friday, May 10 on Paramount +.
