Steve Harvey, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock and many of our favorite comedians who we have seen on the big screen and are now known to us as legends, all started out on a lonely stage. Prime Video’s latest docuseries, Phat Tuesdays, tells the untold stories of some of the most famous Black comedians in the industry.
In the 90s, Phat Tuesdays was an all-Black-comedy night at The Comedy Store founded and hosted by comedian and actor Guy Torry. The new series tells the unbelieveable story of how Torry created the special night to help Black comedians be seen and heard on stage. “It was more than a night of laughter—it was a movement. Phat Tuesdays was Black, bold, and brilliant. It was the best damn comedy show, period,” Torry shares. Back in the day, Phat Tuesdays would bring together people from all walks of life for one reason only, laughter.
The three-part docuseries is directed by Reginald Hudlin and features some of today’s famous comedians and personalities, including Anthony Anderson, Nick Cannon, Dave Chappelle, Regina King, Chris Tucker and more.
