There is a lot going on at CinemaCon this week, and it feels like every single day we get another exciting detail drop. Last night, during the Amazon MGM Studios presentation, Michael B. Jordan took the stage to tout his highly anticipated upcoming film, The Thomas Crown Affair.

Starring alongside Adria Arjona, Jordan revealed that the romantic art heist is about a flirtatious, high-stakes cat-and-mouse game between a brilliant billionaire art thief and a sharp insurance investigator. And to elevate the project even further, Jordan announced that Grammy and Oscar-winning musician Jon Batiste is officially on board to compose the film’s score.

Batiste actually helped set the mood for the evening, kicking off the studio’s presentation with a passionate live piano performance before the film’s first footage was unveiled to the crowd of theater owners.

Jordan, fresh off his Academy Award win for his dual performance in Sinners, isn’t just taking on the leading role of Thomas Crown; he is also in the director’s chair.

The film serves as a fresh reimagining of the 1968 Steve McQueen classic, which was also famously remade in 1999 starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Alongside Jordan and Arjona, the new film’s supporting cast featuring Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Aubrey Plaza, and Ruth Negga.

Speaking to the CinemaCon audience, Jordan revealed that this project has been a passion of his for a long time. “I’ve been daydreaming about making this movie for years,” he shared, noting that watching the 1999 version as a 12-year-old left a massive impression on him.

As for what audiences can expect from his take on the iconic character, the director explained that he wanted to honor the DNA of the franchise while pushing it forward. He aims to bring the signature style, sophistication, and rebellion that audiences loved in the previous versions, while tweaking the narrative to make his version of Thomas Crown “someone you can root for”.

The exclusive footage shown at the event promised exactly that, teasing globe-trotting spectacle, incredible chemistry, and high-octane heist sequences.

The Thomas Crown Affair is slated to hit theaters on March 5, 2027.
