Discover the true story of the 2014 Jackie Robinson West Little League team in ONE GOLDEN SUMMER, an award-winning new documentary.
One Golden Summer

If you were paying attention to sports in the summer of 2014, you likely remember the magic of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team. Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, this group of thirteen young boys captivated the nation by becoming the first all-Black team to win the U.S. Little League Championship.

They were affectionately dubbed the “Greatest Show on Dirt,” carrying the collective hope and immense pride of their city on their shoulders.

But as quickly as they reached the mountaintop, the magic was abruptly overshadowed. Just months after their historic victory, the team had its title stripped away due to questionable residency boundaries. The boys found themselves buried under a mountain of headlines, media firestorms, and heartbreak.

Now, a new award-winning documentary is finally handing the microphone back to the players.

Acquired by TNT Sports in partnership with the Oprah Winfrey Network, One Golden Summer aims to be the definitive documentary on the Jackie Robinson West team. Produced by State Street Pictures and directed by Kevin Shaw, the film looks past the trophies and the scandal to focus on the human element of the story.

Through rare, never-before-seen footage and raw interviews with the players, who are now grown men, the documentary explores the crushing weight of the controversy that followed their victory. It takes a rigorous, eye-opening look at the systemic hurdles these young athletes faced, while ultimately highlighting the unbreakable bond they formed. It asks: What truly makes a champion when the trophies are gone?

The film has already made waves on the festival circuit. Following its decorated debut at the Chicago International Film Festival, One Golden Summer took home both the Chicago Award and the Audience Award for Best Documentary. It is being praised not just as a love letter to the game of baseball, but as a testament to the redemptive power of storytelling.

One Golden Summer will make its TBS premiere on Tuesday, April 7, at 10:30 p.m. ET, airing immediately following the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Toronto Blue Jays game. Additionally, viewers can catch the secondary broadcast on Thursday, May 7, when it airs as a special OWN SPOTLIGHT on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
