Bruno Mars is officially back on top. Following a highly anticipated return to the solo spotlight, the pop and R&B superstar’s latest project, The Romantic, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This is his second career chart-topping album and his first time securing the coveted number-one spot in over a decade.

The nine-track studio album launched with a massive 186,000 equivalent album units in the United States in its first week. According to Luminate, those numbers were split almost evenly between traditional purchases and streaming. The Romantic brought in 93,500 pure album sales, which were heavily boosted by an impressive 48,000 vinyl copies sold across various physical variants.

Meanwhile, the project garnered 90,500 streaming equivalent units, translating to roughly 93.95 million on-demand official streams.

For a hitmaker of Mars’s caliber, this No. 1 debut is a massive testament to his undeniable longevity in the music industry. It has been 13 years since he last ruled the Billboard 200 with his 2013 sophomore album, Unorthodox Jukebox.

Furthermore, The Romantic serves as his first solo studio release in nearly ten years, serving as the official follow-up to his Grammy-dominating 2016 blockbuster, 24K Magic. While he has certainly kept busy with massive collaborative projects like Silk Sonic alongside Anderson .Paak and his recent record-breaking duet Die With a Smile with Lady Gaga.

The album’s commercial dominance was perfectly set up by its lead singles, which have already been making significant waves on the charts. Mars kicked off this new era with the slick, soul-infused track I Just Might, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking his tenth career chart-topper. Bolstered by the successful follow-up single Risk It All, the album is currently enjoying a dominant dual presence across streaming platforms, radio airplay, and physical sales.

Mars is preparing to take his new catalog on the road for a massive global stadium run later this spring. With The Romantic successfully conquering the charts, it is safe to say that the Pop superstar has effortlessly ushered in another golden era.
