Fresh off the blue carpet at the NAACP Creative Honors, Bel Air star Adrian Holmes shared some “quintessential” insights into the pillars that keep him grounded: his fraternity, his legendary television legacy, and the woman by his side.

June 1st will mark exactly one year since Holmes crossed into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Reflecting on his first year of brotherhood, Holmes describes the experience as nothing short of transformative.

“I feel 10 feet tall. I feel so supported everywhere I go,” Holmes shared, noting the surreal experience of realizing the vast reach of the organization only after becoming a member. For Holmes, this journey is a case of life imitating art. His character, the iconic Philip Banks, is a brother of the fraternity on Bel Air. Walking in “Uncle Phil’s” shoes in such a tangible, real-world way has added a layer of depth to his portrayal that he describes as truly surreal.

When asked about the lessons he wished he’d learned sooner, Holmes pointed toward the discipline required for longevity. While many rely on natural talent to “coast” or operate on “autopilot,” Holmes stresses that reaching the top is only half the battle; holding that position requires a deeper level of commitment.

His advice to his younger self, and to those looking to follow in his footsteps, is simple: Dig deeper. “Don’t just trust on your gift,” he warned, encouraging creators to push past the easy layers to discover the true experiences waiting on the other side of the extra mile.

The professional and personal lives of Holmes converged during the final season of Bel-Air when his wife, actress Caroline Chikezie, joined the cast.

For Holmes, their collaboration serves as a testament to what a true partnership looks like: an intentional, daily commitment rather than a search for perfection. He acknowledges that this work is rarely easy because they are two distinct individuals, yet he believes this mutual choice allows him to flourish in the spotlight.

Having a partner who truly “gets” him provides an anchor that prevents the isolation often found in fame and fosters a safe space for authentic vulnerability.
