The nightmare is back. HBO has released the first official trailer and key art for its upcoming original series IT: Welcome to Derry, a prequel that explores the origins of one of horror’s most terrifying figures: Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
The eight-episode series premieres October 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will stream on HBO Max, with new episodes dropping weekly through December 14.
From filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti—the team behind the blockbuster IT films—Welcome to Derry takes viewers deeper into the cursed town that has terrified readers and moviegoers for decades.
Developed by the Muschiettis and Jason Fuchs, the series promises a terrifying dive into Derry’s unsettling history and the ancient evil that feeds on its fear. Andy Muschietti himself is returning to direct multiple episodes.
The series brings together a powerhouse cast led by Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård, who reprises his iconic role as Pennywise.
The trailer offers fans their first glimpse at how Pennywise came to be, teasing a disturbing and atmospheric origin story that will connect to the larger Stephen King universe.
By unraveling how Derry became a breeding ground for fear, Welcome to Derry looks set to deliver the kind of layered storytelling and nightmare-fueling scares that will have viewers double-checking the shadows.
