Atlanta’s own Desi Banks is leveling up. The viral comedy star and stand-up favorite is officially developing a half-hour sitcom with BET Studios.
According to the show’s logline, the untitled multi-camera comedy will follow “a lovable yet stubborn comedian on the rise as he attempts to balance fatherhood, relationships, and the pursuit of his ever-present dream.” Translation? It’s pretty much Desi’s life with a scripted twist.
Banks is co-writing the project with longtime collaborator Malcolm “Champ” Heaggans, and both will serve as executive producers. Heaggans has been a part of the Desi cinematic universe for years, helping bring his sketches and social content to life. And now, they’re turning all that Atlanta hustle into a TV series.
Not only are Banks and Heaggans from the city, but they’re teaming up with production companies that are deeply rooted in Atlanta culture, including Quality Films and 3 Arts Entertainment’s new Atlanta-based office, led by Jermaine Johnson.
It’s a big win for Southern storytelling and creators who’ve built platforms from scratch. Banks, who’s currently on his Elevation Tour, has been doing just that—elevating. He already made waves with his 2024 Purpose Chaser Tour, and has shared the stage with some of comedy’s biggest names: Mike Epps, DeRay Davis, Kountry Wayne, Gary Owen, Lavell Crawford, and Martin Lawrence.
But this new show is where it all comes together. Real life, stand-up, internet comedy, and now television.
As the CEO of Desi Banks Productions, he’s created over 3,500 original videos, partnering with big-name talent like Kevin Hart, Ludacris, and 21 Savage.
You might’ve also spotted him in Little, Haunted Trail, and One of Them Days. But this BET sitcom is shaping up to be his biggest on-screen move yet.
No word yet on the release date or casting, but Desi Banks is bringing his brand of funny, Southern flavor and authenticity straight to prime time.
