Zion Likely to Return Very Soon

Zion Williamson could make his long-awaited return to the NBA on Thursday.

The New Orleans Pelicans’ 2019 No. 1 overall pick and the National Player of the Year after his efforts on Duke is likely nearing a sooner return date rather than later, according to Sirius XM NBA Radio’s Mitch Lawrence.

“The (team) will know a lot more after practice this week, but it sure sounds like we’ll get the long-awaited NBA debut of Zion Williamson on Thursday vs. the Jazz,” wrote Lawrence on his social media account. “That’s the plan, anyway, per sources.”

A human-highlight reel in high school and college with his flashy, dunk-like-contest slams, Williamson, unfortunately, has had bad luck. In a game versus North Carolina last college season, Williamson blew out his Nike sneaker and mildly sprained his knee; he missed games before coming back later on in his freshman season.

In the NBA Summer League, he sustained a knee injury versus his former teammate in New York Knicks’ RJ Barrett.

With his virtuoso dunks and relentless production through high school and college ‑‑ Zion averaged 22.6 points at Duke ‑‑ the athletic marvel has been one of the more anticipated athletes to watch, some would say since LeBron James.
