Active Vacation in Copenhagen: Things to Do

There are times when one needs to take a vacation that will be more than sunbathing, swimming and shopping. In that case, having an active vacation is the perfect solution because you get the chance to rest, while also taking part in various physical activities.

If you’re looking to travel for some fun and play, there’s no better place than Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. This international city has so much to offer, just make sure to visit it during late spring or summer since autumns and winters tend to get really freezing. Now, here are some activities that you can do while vacationing there.

1. Go cycling

Nothing is more relaxing, yet also physically demanding, like cycling. Luckily, Copenhagen can boast a unique bike culture, which is no surprise considering that riding a bike is cheap, convenient and eco-friendly. Therefore, it’s easy to rent a hybrid bike, and what’s even better, many hotels provide bicycles for their guests.

The locals are also avid cyclists who use bikes to go to and from work, so you’ll find many biking routes all over the city. Just remember to avoid the rush hour, if you’re not an experienced cyclist. Also, you can join one of the many cycling clubs, which can be a great way to meet new people and build relationships that will last you for years to come.

2. Get those running shoes on

In case you want to get really active, but you’re too busy to look for gyms and exercising communities, there is a solution: running. Copenhagen has a long tradition of running, so if you’re looking to get in shape then you can participate in the Copenhagen marathon, as it is a great chance to get acquainted with fellow runners and make some friendships.

You can check out the Copenhagen marathon results in a recent study and see the participation and performance results. If you’d like to take part in this challenge, then you better start training ahead and preparing for the marathon. You’ll definitely need good shape for such a challenge.

Due to the city’s active workout culture, running a marathon is something you should definitely consider doing since it can help you learn more about the city and meet a lot of interesting people.

3. Group yoga classes

If you’re looking to entertain yourself with some stretching and mindfulness, then yoga is the right thing for you. Copenhagen has many yoga studios and even an annual yoga festival in August. Whether you opt for Hatha, Ashtanga, Kundalini or something else, you’ll definitely be able to find something for yourself.

Copenhagen scene is still growing, but there are still a lot of certified yoga teachers that will be able to help you. If you don’t speak Danish, don’t worry, since many classes are taught in English, and everyone is so friendly. A great time is guaranteed.

4. Bungy jumping

If you consider yourself a true adrenaline junkie, then you should definitely try some bungy jumping while in Copenhagen. There’s a 69-meters-high Bungy jump location near Little Mermaid. Remember to check your health condition beforehand, and if possible, get a note from your doctor that you’re allowed to jump.

Also, it’s important to mention that you’re not allowed to jump if you’re pregnant, drunk or if you’re suffering from heart and circulatory disease. Similarly, those who have the previous knee, back or ligament injuries, won’t be allowed to jump. And if you want, you can get your Bungy jump recorded, just make sure to notify the staff, so they’ll have time to set up their recording equipment.

5. Kite surfing

Copenhagen lies on the shore, so there are a lot of water-related activities to choose from. In case you don’t know where to go, we suggest kite surfing lessons, a bit outside of the city. There are onshore winds that create a perfect atmosphere for kiteboarding, and if you’re an absolute beginner, don’t fret — there are experienced and certified kite surfers who’ll be more than happy to help you start. Also, all the classes are available in English, so even if you don’t know Danish, there’s no reason to worry.

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to get yourself in shape and stay active while visiting Copenhagen. Just keep in mind to make your reservations on time, and always follow the directions from your instructors or your new local acquaintances. If you keep yourself safe and organized, you’ll definitely have a great active vacation in Copenhagen!
