Netflix has officially renewed A Different World for a second season. Viewers will be walking the halls of Hillman College once again. The announcement comes just over a week after the sequel series premiered on the streaming service.
The new series, which debuted September 24, follows Deborah Wayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon, as she begins her freshman year at the fictional historically Black college attended by her parents, Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert. The characters are reprised by original stars Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy.
Season one introduced a new generation of Hillman students while bringing back several familiar faces from the original sitcom. Cree Summer, Darryl M. Bell, and Debbie Allen are among the returning cast members connected to the franchise.
The new class also includes Rashida Duvall (Alijah Kai)
Showrunner and executive producer Felicia Pride said the renewal was a validation of the audience’s response to the series. She also promised that the second season will continue to explore college life, relationships, friendships, and personal growth.
