With less than three weeks until Election Day, Democrats are bringing in one of their biggest names for the final push in Georgia. Former President Barack Obama will headline an evening rally in Atlanta on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in support of U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Democratic nominee for Georgia governor, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The rally will land near the end of Georgia’s three-week early voting period, just days before the November 3 election. Organizers haven’t announced an exact time or venue yet, but they say the goal is simple: getting Georgians out to vote early for Ossoff, Bottoms and Democrats across the ballot.

The two races Obama is stepping into look very different. Ossoff is considered the favorite in his re-election bid against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins. Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, is in a much tighter contest with Republican billionaire Rick Jackson.

If elected, she would become the first Black woman to serve as governor of any state in U.S. history. Democrats are hoping Ossoff’s strength at the top of the ticket helps carry her and other candidates over the finish line.

Obama has already been involved in the campaign, appearing in radio and digital ads urging voters to support Bottoms and Ossoff.

Democrats are betting that seeing him in person will do even more, especially with Black voters, who make up the core of the party’s coalition in Georgia. He’s done this before. Obama rallied thousands in Georgia for Stacey Abrams and Sen. Raphael Warnock in October 2022, and he returned in 2024 for a metro Atlanta rally with Kamala Harris that also featured Bruce Springsteen.

Harris will be back in Atlanta herself two days after Obama’s rally, headlining an Oct. 30 dinner hosted by the Fulton County Democrats.

Republicans are bringing out their own heavy hitters. Jackson, who spent much of the general election keeping his distance from President Donald Trump, joined him at a rally in Dalton on Friday, Oct. 16. Trump is set to return to Georgia for a rally in Macon on Oct. 24. Collins has built his campaign around turning out the same MAGA base that helped Trump narrowly carry Georgia in 2024.

Georgia’s early voting period is underway now. Voters can find their polling locations and check their registration status through the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page.
