Inside Higher Purpose Fest: A $2.2M Groundbreaking, a Decade of Impact, and Raheem DeVaughn Live

Higher Purpose Hub wrapped up a decade of community impact in the Mississippi Delta with a landmark three-day celebration in Clarksdale, pairing the groundbreaking of its new $2.2 million regional economic opportunity center with the 4th Annual Higher Purpose Fest.

For the first time, the nonprofit unified its three signature events, the Community Market, Business Summit, and Awards Gala, into a single weekend dedicated to culture, community wellness, and economic empowerment.

Backed by more than $2.2 million from the Delta Regional Authority alongside private donors, the project transforms a historic downtown building at 238 Issaquena Ave into a multi-use destination. Once complete, the flagship center will house a bookstore, public art gallery, wellness services, fresh food access, and business development resources for entrepreneurs across the Delta.

Founder and Executive Director Dr. Tim Lampkin framed the groundbreaking as a tangible investment in the brilliance, resilience, and economic future of Black communities across the region.

“Ten years ago, we set out to build a different kind of future for the Mississippi Delta, one rooted in the brilliance, joy, and resilience of our people,” Lampkin said. “The Higher Purpose Fest is the embodiment of that vision.”

The weekend opened Thursday night with a family-friendly Community Market, where guests moved between culinary demonstrations by Talisa Shivers and Turnip Todd, hands-on raised-bed gardening with Jaylen Hudson, and yoga sessions led by Maya Morris and Candace Sausberry. DJ Amber Love set the mood alongside live musical performances from Cuz Band, Marion Cork, Mike Steele, and Edna Nicole + Delta Ave, accompanied by retail vendors and on-site health services.

Friday shifted the focus to entrepreneurship with the Business Summit, which opened with a keynote from SBA Person of the Year Ameka Coleman, Founder and CEO of Strands of Faith, and closed with a fireside chat between hip-hop artist Akeem Ali and Dr. Lampkin. In between, industry panels discussed regional visionaries across music, including Grammy winner Audri Johnson and Tiffany Turner, granddaughter of Ike Turner; food, featuring Harvey Williams of Delta Dirt Distillery and Corterrius Allen; and community wellness.

The celebration culminated Saturday night with the Higher Purpose Awards Gala, an evening honoring business and civic leaders driving economic equity and cultural preservation across the Mississippi Delta. The gala featured a headlining performance by Grammy-winning R&B artist Raheem DeVaughn and music by celebrity DJ Traci Steele.

All three days were free and open to the public, marking a major milestone for Higher Purpose Hub as it enters its second decade of transforming the Delta.
