The world has seen plenty of documentaries and adaptations chronicling the legendary life of Muhammad Ali, but none like this. This past weekend at the ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, Prime Video unveiled the highly anticipated first-look teaser for The Greatest, an upcoming eight-episode limited series tracing the life of the global icon and heavyweight boxing champion.

Along with the footage, the streamer set a global premiere date, confirming that the blockbuster sports drama will debut worldwide on Wednesday, November 4.

The presentation was moderated by ESPN and ABC News journalist Kelley Carter. It featured an appearance by the creator and showrunner Ben Watkins alongside stars Jaalen Best, Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham, and Michael Ealy.

Best portrays Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali. Ealy steps into a recurring role as civil rights leader Malcolm X, while Omari Hardwick and Gourrier portray Ali’s parents, Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr. and Odessa “Bird” Clay. Additionally, Giovanni Ribisi takes on the role of legendary boxing trainer Angelo Dundee, with Joseph portraying Ali’s fierce heavyweight rival, Sonny Liston, and Parham featuring as Ali’s younger brother, Rudy Clay.

Billed as the first-ever scripted series authorized by the boxing legend’s estate, The Greatest is executive produced by Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, alongside Michael B. Jordan and his production company, Outlier Society.

While Ali’s historic victories and defeats inside the ring are well-documented, the heartbeat of The Greatest wants to capture the moments that took place outside the blinding sports spotlight.

According to the creative team, the series is a deeply intimate exploration of a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son. It promises unprecedented access to the personal realities behind the global humanitarian icon, starting from his formative origins as Cassius Clay through his rise to absolute global dominance.

The Greatest hits Prime Video on November 4.
