Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media Signs Multi-Year TV Overall Deal with Netflix

Netflix has just secured one of the most coveted creative partnerships in the entertainment industry. The streaming giant has officially signed a multi-year television overall deal with Proximity Media, the acclaimed multimedia company founded by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian.

Under the new deal, Proximity Media will develop and produce a slate of premium, premium-scripted, and unscripted television series exclusively for Netflix.

The announcement is a major strategic transition for Coogler’s production banner. The exclusive partnership with Netflix will officially commence upon the completion of Proximity Media’s highly publicized television overall deal with The Walt Disney Company.

Through Proximity Media, which was founded with a mission to create closer proximity to groundbreaking stories looking at overlooked subjects, Coogler has also produced heavily celebrated projects like Judas and the Black Messiah.

While Coogler’s previous Disney television deal focused heavily on expanding the world of Wakanda for Disney+, this new transition to Netflix opens up an entirely new canvas for the production company.
