The wait is almost over for the Southside, and it’s looking more dangerous than ever. Starz has officially dropped the trailer for the fifth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and it confirms the one thing fans have been holding their breath over: Raquel “Raq” Thomas is very much alive.
After the shocking cliffhanger of Season 4, where Kanan (Mekai Curtis) pulled the trigger on his own mother, the new footage reveals that Raq (Patina Miller) survived the encounter. However, any hope for a family reunion is long gone.
The trailer sets the stage for an all-out war between mother and son, with Raq no longer interested in protecting the boy she once loved as he transitions from an ambitious dealer to a cold, calculating kingpin.
This season is the proper introduction of Breeze, played by Shameik Moore. As a legendary figure in the Power lore, Breeze becomes Kanan’s new business partner, helping him solidify his grip on the Queens drug trade. This alliance is a pivotal moment for the franchise, effectively bridging the gap between Kanan’s youth and the ruthless mentor fans first met in the original Power series.
Returning fan favorites London Brown (Marvin) and Malcolm Mays (Lou-Lou) are set to reprise their roles, while Joey Bada$$ makes his anticipated return as Unique, a man fighting a high-stakes battle to preserve his fading legacy in the Queens drug trade. Adding to the final season are new cast members Joe Pantoliano, who joins as Manhattan Mafia head Pino Bernardi, and Leslie Grossman, taking on the role of strategic Manhattan madam Florence “Flossie” Siegel.
Showrunner Sascha Penn has promised that this final season won’t leave fans hanging, stating that the finale will put a “punctuation point” on Kanan’s origin story. While this chapter is closing, the universe will continue to expand with the upcoming prequel series Power: Origins, which follows the early years of Ghost and Tommy.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 premieres Friday, June 12. on the Starz app and all streaming platforms.
