Mo’Nique’s Son Publicly Apologizes After Family Feud, Credits Younger Siblings for Sparking Reconciliation

Mo’Nique’s eldest son, Shalon Jackson, is taking full accountability for the harsh public words he directed at his mother last year. And this time, he’s leading with love, gratitude, and a desire to make things right.

“I want to start this off by showing my gratitude towards my family,” Jackson began. “The amount of patience and grace that they have all shown me, especially during times where I did not deserve it, is appreciated more than I can ever express in words.”

Last year, Jackson had a public falling out with his Oscar-winning mother following her Club Shay Shay interview in 2024. At the time, he accused Mo’Nique of being absent in his life and blasted her for, as he put it, creating a “false narrative” about their relationship. He even went as far as saying, “She doesn’t care to be my mother any more than I care to be her son.”

Now, the 35-year-old is walking it all back.

He called those now-deleted videos a “betrayal” and says that while he may have been struggling emotionally, his reasoning doesn’t excuse the impact.

“Why I made the videos and how I was feeling at the time is irrelevant. I made them, and I shouldn’t have. Period,” he admitted. “My family did not deserve the backlash they received from what I said.”

He also got real about his struggles with accountability and mental health, saying, “My mother and Sidney [Hicks] were very justified to address my mental health condition at the time. I just simply didn’t like it.”

Jackson revealed that it was his younger brothers who orchestrated the in-person reunion between him and Mo’Nique, pushing him to face the situation. “It felt like I spiritually got jumped,” he joked, “but at the end of the ass-whooping, my family did pick me up and give me a hug.”

He gave heartfelt praise to his stepfather Sidney Hicks, crediting him with being the anchor in the family and the kind of man his younger brothers look up to. “Who they [his brothers] are as men and who they are becoming as men is also a testament to the caliber of man Sidney is,” he said.

Jackson also gave flowers to his mother, reflecting on how much he missed during their estrangement, from her lovingly making baby food from scratch for his son to baking chocolate chip cookies with his daughter.

And for those who took his comments as ammunition against Mo’Nique, Jackson had a message for them too: “I also apologize to my mother for the things that you said about her. If it wasn’t for me running my mouth, y’all wouldn’t have ran yours.”

In true full-circle fashion, Mo’Nique responded by posting a family photo on social media captioned simply, “GRATEFUL!!!! I LOVE US 4REAL!!!”
