Basketball legend Derrick Rose brought a different experience to his hometown with a one-day pop-up flower shop that celebrated his legacy.
The event, titled Rose’s Flower Shop, drew hundreds of people eager to connect with the former Chicago Bulls star. The shop, which operated under the slogan “Stop and Smell the Roses,” offered fans the chance to select four flowers to send to loved ones.
The line stretched for blocks, with fans braving the cold for hours to participate in this rare opportunity. The installation, hosted in collaboration with Adidas, was part of a week-long series of events leading up to Derrick Rose Night at the United Center.
The flower shop wasn’t just about roses; it was about honoring the impact of Rose’s journey and the people who shaped it. Fans were invited to send flowers to those who influenced their lives, mirroring Rose’s own gratitude for his supporters.
Rose himself was in attendance, meeting fans and taking photos. “Chicago is that place,” Rose said in his post on Instagram. “Yes you don’t have to prove shit to anyone but it’s nothing like getting that head nod from a Og or that look when ppl see and feel that you chasing greatness.”
Later that evening, Rose hosted an exclusive event at the Soho House in the West Loop, unveiling his mini-documentary, Becoming a Rose. The film, a heartfelt tribute to Chicago, explores Rose’s journey from a young basketball prodigy to an NBA MVP and cultural icon. Featuring his oldest son, PJ, the documentary highlights the deep bond between Rose, his family, and his city.
“Filmmaking is my new passion,” Rose said. “This project is about more than basketball; it’s about growth, resilience, and legacy. It’s my love letter to Chicago.”
The week of celebrations will culminate on Saturday, January 4, with Derrick Rose Night at the United Center as the Bulls face the New York Knicks. Fans in attendance will receive exclusive Derrick Rose T-shirts and have the chance to pick up one of 5,000 roses from a commemorative flower cart.
Rose, who played for the Bulls from 2008 to 2016 and later for the Knicks, will be honored during a special halftime ceremony.
