Netflix’s Dear White People star DeRon Horton revealed a scary experience just before the holidays: he was shot through his car window, leaving him with a shattered arm and a metal plate surgically inserted to repair the damage.
Horton, 32, took to Instagram to share the news and express his gratitude for making it through the ordeal.
In the post, Horton reflected on the near-death experience, sharing photos of his hospital stay, the stitches in his arm, and the shattered glass in his vehicle. Despite the trauma, the actor emphasized resilience, faith, and gratitude.
“First off. I wanna give an honor to God for covering me and protecting me to make it out this situation and countless other ones,” Horton wrote. “Gettin shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list 😂🎅🏽 but it happened.”
Horton explained that the bullet broke and shattered his arm, requiring surgery to implant a plate and screws. While recovering, Horton acknowledged the frustration of not being able to work out but focused on the silver lining. “But I’m Blessed dawg to not be in a casket or paralyzed Lord Thank You.”
Horton also expressed appreciation for the support he received from loved ones. “Everybody that checked on me n holla’d at me specially my family n friends I love yall, Thank you,” he shared.
