Paapa Essiedu Eyed to Play Severus Snape in HBO’s Upcoming Harry Potter Series

British actor Paapa Essiedu is reportedly in the running to take on the role of Professor Severus Snape. And if you’re a true Happy Potter fan you know that Snape is one of the most iconic characters in modern fantasy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Essiedu, best known for his standout performance in I May Destroy You, has been offered the role of the sharp-witted, enigmatic Potions Master in HBO’s highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series. While sources confirm his consideration, it remains unclear if negotiations have officially begun.

The Harry Potter TV series is set to be a decade-long retelling of Rowling’s iconic books, offering a more detailed and immersive exploration of the wizarding world.

HBO has yet to officially announce any casting decisions, but the show is already sparking intense speculation about its ensemble. Alongside Essiedu’s rumored casting, veteran actor Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) is reportedly close to signing on as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. However, contrary to recent rumors, sources have debunked claims that Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy is being considered for the role of Lord Voldemort.

Casting Paapa Essiedu in one of the series’ key roles would contribute to creating a more diverse cast.

The series is aiming to be released in 2026.
