Jonathan Majors Steps Into the Ring With Michael B. Jordan in ‘Creed 3’ Trailer

In 2018, the sequel to Ryan Coogler‘s Rocky spin-off debuted with commercial success grossing $214 million worldwide. Five years later, we are gearing up for the release of the third installment of the franchise.

Yesterday, Michael B. Jordan shared the movie poster to his social media and had the internet going crazy. Not only will Creed 3 be his directorial debut but it will also include Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors.

Today, the first trailer for the film has been released and shows us that Majors will come in as the antagonist who goes from friend to foe and will ultimately be in the ring opposite Adonis Creed. “First of all, Jonathan Major is incredible. Very, very blessed and lucky to have him be a part of this story. And for me, as a director just to have that running mate, and have that scene partner … made all the difference in the world,” Jordan said on a press call.

On the emotional preparation for his directorial debut, Jordan says “there was nothing I could do to prepare myself. Talking to a lot of directors that have been through this before really gave me as close of an idea of what the experience is going to be, without going through it myself, so I leaned on those conversations and that advice.” The production began shooting shortly after the lockdown and quarantine. “Meditation was very helpful … important to me,” he adds.

Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Bianca continuing the family dynamic of the film with an emphasis on inclusion with their hearing-impaired daughter. “I think naturally, it was the right evolution of the Creed family. Dealing with ASL and Bianca’s character. Since Creed One and how that evolved to her becoming a mother and the possibility of our child being hard of hearing, ultimately being deaf and how the family evolves,” Jordan shares. There isn’t much representation in our community surrounding hearing impairment so seeing this type of family will be interesting.
