How to Stay Sane in the Workplace During the Pandemic

Whether you’re working from home or in the physical location of your employment, there’s one thing everyone has in common "covid fatigue”. In these uncertain times, the stress of trying to remain safe and healthy only adds to the common pressures a person can experience daily. For some, this is the "new normal", while others perceive the current pandemic as temporary. Whatever your point of view might be, here are a few suggestions to help you get through the day.

When taking a moment to unwind and refocus, remember to channel your energy positively. Never dwell on the situations that you do not have the power to change. Every goal achieved throughout the day, whether it is great or small, is still progress. Even if you haven't checked off every task on your list, there is always tomorrow.

Communication is key. Clearing the air and voicing your thoughts and feelings can be a helpful release. It may help you regain your perspective.

Live in the here and now. In the news, there are many negative projections of what the future may hold. Do not let fear and anxiety paint a bleak image of the unknown. Just take one day at a time.

“It helps some people just to see others wearing masks,” said Kaye Hermanson, UC Davis Health psychologist in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

“And when you see people wearing masks, tell them thank you in a genuine way. Positive reinforcement can be powerful. I remind myself to control the things I can, and that I can’t control other people. I say to myself, ‘For every person not masking, look at all the people who are."

According to Hermanson following the health guidelines is how people can take control.
