Donald Glover will direct and star in a live-action series based on the hit battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds, which is in development at Netflix.

Glover will also write and executive produce the series with his brother, Stephen Glover. Deadline said the project came together after lengthy negotiations, with Netflix bringing Glover on board.

As of October 30, neither Netflix nor Krafton, the South Korean company behind the game, had announced the series on their own channels.

The series has a deep bench of producers. Michael Schaefer of Neon TV, Fam Udeorji of Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee of LV3H, Krafton’s entertainment division, also executive produced.

Udeorji is a longtime Glover collaborator who serves as his manager and runs Gilga, the creative company the two built together. LV3H is Krafton’s arm for expanding PUBG into original film and television.

The project reunites the Glover brothers, who shaped FX’s Emmy-winning Atlanta together. Donald created and starred in the series, while Stephen served as a writer and producer. More recently, Glover co-created and starred in Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith opposite Maya Erskine.

PUBG drops up to 100 players onto an island where they scavenge for weapons and fight until one is left standing. The game helped popularize the battle royale genre and has set seven Guinness World Records, according to Deadline.

The series joins a growing slate of video game adaptations at Netflix, which also has Assassin’s Creed, Gears of War, Minecraft, and Magic: The Gathering in development.

For now, there is no premiere date, cast beyond Glover, or plot information, and the project has not been officially confirmed by Netflix or Krafton.
