Damson Idris is set to star in and produce Sacrament, an action thriller in development at Apple Original Films, with Jonathan Levine attached to direct. Deadline first reported the news on October 26.
The project reunites Idris with Apple after the racing film F1.
A Job Gone Wrong in Utah
Sacrament follows two Chicago cops turned contractors who track a runaway thief to a remote, heavily fortified township in Sacrament, Utah. What starts as a routine job becomes a fight in which they are outnumbered and outgunned, and the pair must become better partners to survive, according to the logline reported by Deadline.
Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson wrote the script. Peter Chernin and David Ready will produce for Chernin Entertainment under its first-look deal with Apple. Idris produces through his Keep Quiet Productions, and Levine and Gillian Bohrer produce through MegaMix, Blex Media reports.
The project is in early development, and no co-stars or production dates have been announced.
A Full Slate
The news adds to an already crowded schedule for Idris. He is set to play Miles Davis in Bill Pohlad’s Miles & Juliette, plays Prince Inan in Children of Blood and Bone, and stars in and executive produces the Netflix series The Lords’ Day.
Levine, whose credits include Long Shot, is also busy. His film Mr. Irrelevant, starring David Corenswet, moved to a Christmas Day 2026 wide release, and Tom Cruise picked him to direct the Days of Thunder sequel for Paramount, according to World of Reel.
For now, Sacrament has no release date or confirmed co-star. What it does have is a clear signal: Apple is betting on Idris as a leading man who can carry a franchise-style thriller, and Idris is making sure he owns a piece of it.
