Druski is going to Studio 8H, and he’s making history doing it. The comedian and content creator, born Drew Desbordes, is officially set to host the November 7 episode of Saturday Night Live, becoming the first digital-native creator to host the show in its five-decade run.
The booking is a milestone that says something real about where comedy stardom comes from now, and where it’s going.
Druski built his name on Instagram and TikTok through characters and skits like “Coulda Been Records,” content that didn’t need a network co-sign or a Hollywood development deal to find millions of people.
What sets his platform apart from most is that he never stopped. While many digital creators use viral moments as a launchpad to something else, Druski continues to drop skits that stop people mid-scroll, keeping his audience engaged and growing long after his initial breakthrough.
From there, he expanded into sold-out comedy tours and major awards show hosting. His platform is his own, and it’s enormous. The SNL booking is the industry acknowledging what the internet already knew.
The distinction between Druski and the digital creators who came before him on that stage is worth noting. Issa Rae hosted SNL in 2020, but by then she had already built and starred in Insecure on HBO for four seasons. Quinta Brunson took the stage in 2023 after creating, writing, and starring in the Emmy-winning Abbott Elementary on ABC.
Both women started in the digital space, Rae with The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and Brunson through viral BuzzFeed and Instagram sketches, but both passed through the traditional television pipeline before SNL came calling. Druski is taking that stage as a digital creator, on the strength of a platform he built himself, without that intermediate step.
For most of its history, Saturday Night Live discovered its hosts through the gatekeeping institutions of American comedy, The Groundlings, Second City, the prestige television pipeline. Druski’s booking is a signal that those gatekeepers no longer have exclusive control over who gets to the main stage.
Druski’s episode of Saturday Night Live airs November 7 on NBC and Peacock.
