Former President Barack Obama is stepping back into the political spotlight with a new video message aimed at mobilizing voters ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections.

The digital advertisement, released through the Democratic National Committee, features Obama speaking directly to viewers about the country’s current political climate and calling on Americans to remain engaged and take action.

The video marks one of his most visible political interventions since leaving office, arriving as Democrats compete for control of the House of Representatives and work to shift the balance of power in the Senate during the final stretch of President Donald Trump’s second term.

The message draws deliberately from Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, when hope and change became the defining language of his political movement. This time, he frames hope not as passive optimism but as a call to action.

“I’ll be honest with you, I never imagined some of the stuff that’s been going on in our country lately,” he says in the video. “That is what hope is all about; it is never blind optimism.” He closed with a direct ask: “So I am asking you today to use that hope and make a difference.”

According to CBS News, Obama has also raised more than $13 million for Democratic candidates through his fundraising efforts ahead of the midterms. Recent reports indicate he has become increasingly active in competitive races through endorsements, campaign appearances, and digital advertising.

Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, appearing on Meet the Press, publicly aligned himself with the message, noting that Democrats “stand on the shoulders of giants” like Obama.

The November midterm elections will determine control of the House and could reshape the Senate’s balance of power going into the final years of Trump’s term.
