It has been a year of highs and lows for Anthony Joshua. Now, the 36-year-old is scheduled to return to the ring to face former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in a fight more than a decade in the making. The two are officially set to meet Friday, December 11, at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, with the card streaming live on Netflix.

Widely regarded as two of the defining heavyweights of their era, Fury and Joshua have spent years atop the sport, collecting world championships and fueling one of boxing’s most anticipated rivalries. Both fighters are also familiar to Netflix audiences, having each headlined major live boxing events on the platform. Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in one of Netflix’s biggest live sporting events last December, while Fury’s unanimous decision over Arslanbek Makhmudov streamed live to audiences around the world in April.

Netflix’s Main Event

Joshua enters the fight as a two-time unified heavyweight champion, holding a career record of 30-4 with 27 knockouts after starting his career 22-0.

The boxer endured a tough stretch that included a loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. and two defeats to Usyk. He won four fights in a row but fell to Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title. Joshua also made headlines after a highly publicized car accident caused the death of two of his close friends.

Ahead of the December showdown, Fury and Joshua are scheduled to face off at a press conference September 30 at the British Airways Arc in London.

“For more than a decade, boxing fans have been clamoring for the heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Together, they bring 66 wins, 52 knockouts, and multiple heavyweight world titles into the ring. On December 11, two of the biggest heavyweights of this generation finally collide– and the winner will take a significant place in heavyweight history,” said Dana White about the upcoming match.

But with anticipation for the fight at an all-time high, so is the uncertainty around whether it will actually happen. Mike Coppinger of The Ring reported that the bout could be called off entirely, citing White’s involvement in promoting the event as the sticking point.

“The issue that is jeopardizing Fury-Joshua is Dana White’s involvement, multiple sources told @SInow,” Coppinger posted on X. “@Turki_alalshikh, who is bankrolling the fight, wants him as a promoter. AJ and Eddie Hearn don’t, and have a contract that says Zuffa can’t be. Fight is very much in peril.”

For now, the fight remains on the calendar for December 11, with this week’s press conference expected to be the next real test of whether the two sides can resolve the dispute before fight night.
