Taraji P. Henson Leads 'Give Me Some Sugah,' a True Story From Producers DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry

DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry are back together, and this time they brought Taraji P. Henson with them. The producing duo is reuniting for Give Me Some Sugah, an upcoming Netflix drama directed by Tasha Smith and written by Randy Brown, who also wrote Miracles from Heaven.

The film is based on the true story of Lenore Lindsey, a Chicago bakery owner whose life is upended by a revelation that sets her on a journey to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds, and embrace the unexpected. It is the kind of story, rooted in faith, family, and the possibility of second chances that Franklin and Perry have built their creative partnership around, and the kind that has consistently found a devoted audience on Netflix.

Henson leads an ensemble cast that includes Joey Badass, real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, alongside Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Russell Hornsby, Alexis Louder, Semaj Prather, Arischa Conner, Angela Davis, and Caroline Avery Granger. Director Tasha Smith and producer Franklin also appear in the film.

Smith, who has built a reputation as one of the most trusted directors in faith-based and Black family cinema, brings both her creative vision and her on-screen presence to the project. Her directorial work has consistently centered on Black women navigating love, loss, and transformation, and Give Me Some Sugah sits squarely in that tradition.

For Franklin and Perry, the film represents the second chapter of a multi-year creative partnership with Netflix that began with Ruth & Boaz. That first collaboration demonstrated that there is a real and hungry audience for stories grounded in faith and community, and Give Me Some Sugah is positioned to build on that momentum heading into the holiday season.
