Apple TV Drops 'Dark Matter' Season 2 Trailer at Comic-Con

The multiverse is officially reopening, and this time, even fans of the original book won’t know what’s coming next. Taking over the legendary Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, Apple TV unveiled the official first trailer for Season 2 of its hit sci-fi thriller Dark Matter.

Panel attendees were treated to an explosive look at the upcoming 10-episode season, which is set to premiere globally on Friday, August 28, with new episodes dropping weekly through October 30.

Led by Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton and Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly, who both star and serve as executive producers, the series is based on Blake Crouch’s bestselling 2016 novel. Crouch, who created the show, serves as showrunner, executive producer, and head writer, leading the narrative into uncharted territory after Season 1 exhaustively adapted the events of his book.

Season 1 of Dark Matter centered on Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physics professor and devoted family man in Chicago who was abducted into an alternate reality by a version of himself, one who invented “the Box,” a device capable of traversing infinite parallel worlds.

Throughout the season, Jason fought a terrifying, multi-dimensional war of choices just to get back home to his wife Daniela (Connelly) and son Charlie (Oakes Fegley).

While Season 1 wrapped with the Dessen family escaping into the unknown to find a safe timeline, Season 2 promises to shatter that temporary peace.

According to Apple TV’s official synopsis, Season 2 picks up with the Dessens attempting to settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe, until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. As Jason’s growing obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s paranoia pushes her to the brink. Elsewhere in the multiverse, Amanda (Alice Braga) and Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) join forces in a desperate attempt to navigate their way home, while Leighton (Dayo Okeniyi) ruthlessly pursues his vision of creating a perfect world.

“Season one was about getting back home,” Crouch teased during the Hall H panel. “Season two asks: what happens when ‘home’ isn’t safe anymore, and how far are you willing to go to protect the people you love when the universe itself is trying to pull you apart?”

In addition to the trailer drop, Apple TV announced the launch of Dark Matter: The Official Podcast, hosted by Crouch and executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry.
