Gene Noble is stepping back into the spotlight, and he brought something special with him. The Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and vocal powerhouse has released Undertones, the first single off his forthcoming album, set to drop later this year.
Produced by Johnny “JT” Thomas Jr. and co-written by Kevin Michael and Noble himself, Undertones is the kind of song that reminds you why R&B matters.
The track explores the quiet personal moments that define genuine connection, the habits, the quirks, the unspoken glances that say more than words ever could. It is a celebration of falling in love with the subtle things that make a person who they are beyond the surface.
Fans of The Chi may have already caught a glimpse of the record before its official release. Noble confirmed on Instagram that Undertones was featured in the latest season of the hit Paramount+ series.
“So cool!! Undertones is special! Grateful to have this moment in The Chi!!” he wrote. “Have you heard the song? Excited to be kicking off this new era in my music!”
“The real beauty in getting to know someone or falling in love is learning the little nuances that make them who they are beyond the obvious,” Noble said in a press release. “The undertones are the things that make us all one-of-one.”
For those who need a reminder of what Gene Noble brings to the table, his biography speaks for itself. Born and raised in New York into a family of singers, Noble got his start performing at local venues before landing his first major performance opportunity alongside Lauryn Hill.
From there, the trajectory only went upward. He has shared the stage with Sting, performing Shape of My Heart and Lucid Dreams live, and has toured alongside some of the biggest names in music, including Usher, Chris Brown, and Jill Scott. His list of collaborators reads like a who’s who of the industry: Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, CeeLo Green, 50 Cent, The Roots, Shaggy, and 21 Savage, among others.
In 2020, he released Matching Tattoos on National Tattoo Day, which fans celebrated as a showcase of his signature falsetto. His 2023 album Feel A Way further expanded his catalog, and in October 2025 his single Off U kept that momentum alive heading into this new era. Undertones arrives as Noble is currently on the road touring nationwide with Jill Scott as a background vocalist.
