Taye Diggs has officially partnered with Lifetime to executive produce and star in their very first “microdrama,” titled Tides of Temptation. Announced on March 4, this “mobile-first” vertical series is designed specifically for the smartphone era.

The series serves as a digital spinoff to Lifetime’s upcoming original movie, Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise With You. By expanding the film’s universe into a vertical format, Lifetime is meeting audiences where they live, on their phones, without sacrificing the emotional depth the network is known for.

Set on the breathtaking island of Nevis, Tides of Temptation follows the story of Constance (played by Mea Wilkerson), a young woman trapped between a controlling brother and an abusive boyfriend. Her world is turned upside down when she meets Jamal, played by social media powerhouse SwagBoyQ (Q Stenline), an ambitious athlete who challenges the status quo.

As Jamal and Constance fall for one another, they realize their “dangerous new love” could carry a heavy price. The series also stars Troy Brookins (who co-produces) and David John Craig, rounding out a cast that Diggs describes as bringing “visual ambition” to a short-form format.

The announcement comes on the heels of a busy awards season for Diggs. He recently attended the 57th NAACP Creative Honors alongside the Tides of Temptation cast, Brookins, Patricia Cuffie-Jones and Autumn Federici, where he reflected on his nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series for his work in Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers & Ours.

Speaking on the blue carpet, Diggs shared his affinity for rom coms: “I’ve always been attracted to romantic comedies. This one was a great one… It’s a solid romantic comedy with a little bit of a twist.”

While the category’s top honor ultimately went to Tyler Lepley for Ruth & Boaz, Diggs’ nomination further cements his status as a king of the modern rom-com.

Lifetime’s jump into the microdrama space isn’t just about shorter clips; it’s about a “premium” experience. Unlike typical low-budget vertical content, Tides of Temptation features feature-level production values and cohesive narrative arcs.

As Rob Sharenow, President of Programming at A+E Global Media, put it, the project is a “smart, strategic way” to expand film worlds while maintaining storytelling quality. Fans can expect Tides of Temptation to debut later this year, shortly after the premiere of Paradise With You.
