Before Tyriq Withers became one of Hollywood’s rising stars, he was a student-athlete navigating the fields and classrooms of Florida State University, and a proud brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Withers grew up with dreams of playing professional soccer, idolizing legends like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, and Roberto Carlos.
But life had other plans. After being cut from his soccer team during his senior year of high school, he pivoted to football and, in just one season, earned enough highlights to receive multiple college offers.
Ultimately, he walked on as a wide receiver at Florida State, joining the Seminoles as they won the 2016 Orange Bowl during his redshirt freshman year.
While at Florida State, Withers pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management, graduating in 2020. It was also during this time that he crossed into the Iota Delta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated in Spring 2018. For Withers, becoming an Alpha wasn’t just about letters—it was about legacy, leadership, and lifting others while climbing.
“Continue to conquer and uphold the Light,” read a congratulatory message from his chapter after graduation, a sentiment that Withers has carried into every step of his journey.
After college, Withers moved to Atlanta to chase his acting dreams, all while enrolling in an MBA program online. His leap of faith quickly paid off.
Withers landed roles in Donald Glover‘s Atlanta (in the episode “Rich Wigga, Poor Wigga”), recurring roles on Hulu’s college series Tell Me Lies, Paramount+’s revival of The Game, and Amazon Prime’s reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Most recently, he broke out as the lead in HIM, a Jordan Peele–produced horror film directed by Justin Tipping and co-starring Marlon Wayans.
Withers has also been tapped to star in the highly anticipated 2026 film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel Reminders of Him.
