  • 5 Luxury Watches That Have Appreciated the Most in Value

Have you thought about investing your money? It goes without saying, but wise investments can be seriously profitable. Yet if you receive some dodgy tips for the stock market or inject your money into the wrong commodities, it can also turn out to be a sour experience for your bank balance. Watch Investments To avoid any bad investments, it makes sense to go with an opportunity that you’re passionate about. So if you are a watch enthusiast, this is one of the best investment routes to take. Not only do you get to purchase watches that can significantly increase in value, but you can also wear and enjoy them as they appreciate – it’s a win-win situation! However, which watches - and brands – are the best bets to gain in value over time? Thanks to an analysis by Betway Casino, this article has five answers for you. Cosmograph Daytona (Rolex) As the biggest luxury watch brand in the world, it’s common for Rolex watches to appreciate at a healthy level. People love to buy anything Rolex, which means there’s always a strong demand for their watches. With that said, there’s one Rolex which is currently going beyond the norm: the Cosmograph Daytona. This stunning watch has been a hit with watch enthusiasts since its inception, and it has skyrocketed in value. In fact, it has appreciated by an incredible 251% so far. Navitimer 01 (Breitling) Breitling is known for crafting some of the finest watches around, and this is never more evident than with its Navitimer 01 range. Bringing together a rich heritage with eye-catching style, this watch has been a favourite among the watch collector market for a long time. This also helps to explain the incredible appreciation it has experienced. The Navitimer 01 is said to have exploded through the ceiling with a 169% value increase. Carrera Calibre 1887 Chronograph (Tag Heuer) Funnily enough, the Calibre 1887 didn’t receive universal acclaim when it was first released. Hardcore watch fans were critical because the watch didn’t feature a movement that was developed in-house by Tag Heuer – even though the company claimed otherwise. Despite its controversial start, the 1887 Chronograph has certainly made up ground since. Boasting sophistication and flair that is indicative of Tag Heuer’s strongest points, the watch has proven popular with a staggering appreciation increase of 127%. Portugieser Chronograph (IWC) While IWC is responsible for some iconic collections, the Portugieser Chronograph is arguably at the top of the list. As a result, the watch is one of the most in-demand on the market today. Those wanting to buy one, however, will have to splash out a lot more than when it was originally released. It has appreciated by 70% at this stage, and there’s no sign of it slowing down. Pelagos (Tudor) While it hasn’t gone up in value at quite the same rate as the other examples, Tudor’s Pelagos has generated an appreciation increase of 26%. This demonstrates both the quality and popularity of Tudor’s work, with the Pelagos perfectly highlighting their approach to striking, sophisticated designs.

  • Honoring Contributions to Black Literacy: Six Poets You Should Know

When recalling great poets, one would be remiss without acknowledging the contributions the African American community has made in the literary world. Resounding voices over the decades celebrate life's joys and reflect on hardships through words that deeply connect with a reader. And also leave a lasting impact on their perspective of the world around them. Readers and poets alike are rooted by the deep connection that comes from shared cultural and social experiences as people of color. Poets from the past and present share their visions in this collection of influential writers. Langston Hughes is widely known for works featuring Black life experiences in America set during the 1920s through the 1960s. Hughes wrote novels, short stories, plays, and poetry and is also known for his involvement in jazz as it was a great influence on his work. He was a highly influential force of the 1920s Harlem Renaissance. Cornelius Eady penned numerous collections of poetry and, along with fellow poet Toi Derricotte founded Cave Canem in 1996, which is a non-profit organization supporting emerging black poets from diverse backgrounds and providing a haven for intellectual growth. Eady also collaborated with composer Deidre Murray on many musical theater productions. Author and Chancellor’s Professor of English at the University of Nebraska, Kwame Dawes inspires up and coming black poets through his contributions to Calabash International Literary Festival, Cave Canem, and the African Poetry Book Fund. Dawes is also the editor in chief of the renowned Prairie Schooner. Contemporary poet Donte Collins is a member of the youth advisory board, TruArtSpeaks, a non-profit organization that fosters a love for literacy, positive leadership, and social justice through spoken word and hip-hop culture. Collins is also the editor at Button Poetry, which is an impactful platform for spoken word poetry. Teacher and poet Sekou Sundiata’s works paid homage to black culture and tradition. Sundiata recorded poetry that was accompanied by the musical talents of Craig Harris, David Murray, and Nona Hendryx to name a few. Poet, novelist, editor, and critic Nathaniel Mackey examined the creative infusion of language and music. Jazz greatly influenced his work. Mackey is also the Reynolds Price Professor of English at Duke University, and from 2001 to 2007, he served as Chancellor of the Academy of American Poetry. Photo Credit: Van Vechten Trust. • 5 Things Men Should Know About False Domestic Abuse Allegations

Men who are in a relationship know that when things are going well, it can be magical. You’re both in sync, and you can’t wait to see the other person again. Maybe you marry each other eventually, or you start to cohabitate. This can be your life’s happiest time, and maybe it will stay that way forever. However, it’s a sad fact that some relationships sour. Then, what you once cherished can become a potential misery source. You might even find yourself facing a false domestic abuse allegation. That’s a serious charge, and you need to fight it. Here are facts you should know about these delicate situations. It Can Happen to Anybody The first thing to realize about false domestic abuse allegations is that they can happen to just about anybody. They might happen: Regardless of the relationship length Irrespective of how well off you are financially Some people feel like poverty can cause domestic abuse. You don’t have enough money, so you’re feeling strained because of it. Even if you live in a lavish mansion, you can still face these sorts of charges. No one is immune, and even if you feel your relationship is on stable footing, sometimes these things can still happen. There Are Many Reasons Someone Might Bring a False Domestic Abuse Accusation There is no one reason why someone might level a false domestic abuse allegation against their spouse or partner. They might do it because: They’re mentally ill They want custody battle leverage They want revenge for an imaged or real slight It sometimes turns out that the person you thought you knew is more vindictive than you realized. Maybe they’re having a breakdown, and they’re lashing out against you. Perhaps you’re drifting apart, and they’re not prepared to have an amicable breakup. You’d hope that because of the love you once had, that they wouldn’t do something like this. If you see increasingly erratic behavior from your spouse or partner, though, it’s not inconceivable that this could happen. There Are Many Domestic Abuse Forms You might hear the term “domestic abuse” and think that it only means physical confrontations. There are several domestic abuse forms of which you should be aware. Abuse might mean that one person berates the other. It could mean that an individual controls the other person financially, such as not letting them access their bank accounts. It might mean that a person is restricting another’s life in various ways. One person might not let the other see or even contact their relatives or friends. Maybe that’s because they’re jealous or they don’t trust them. Perhaps this individual even stalks the other, following them around or using listening devices to monitor their activities. A Person Has to Prove Domestic Abuse Remember, though, that someone has to prove a domestic abuse allegation. Your spouse or partner probably isn’t going to convince the authorities if there’s no evidence backing up what they claim happened. If they say that domestic abuse occurred, they’ll need eyewitness testimony or physical evidence like bruises if they say that it got physical. If there’s nothing like that, and no paper trail to back up a claim that you withheld their resources from them, they might not have a leg to stand on if they take you to court. You Can Fight the Charges The other thing that men should know is that if a spouse or partner brings a false domestic abuse accusation against you, there are several ways you can fight back. You’ll first need to hire a lawyer. There are several of them that specialize in these situations. You can gather evidence refuting what the other person says. Maybe you can find eyewitnesses that will testify the other person is under stress, or they’re seeking revenge against you. It’s not likely that they brought these charges against you with no warning signs beforehand, and there is probably ample evidence that what they claim happened isn’t true. While you’re sorting things out, you also need to distance yourself from the other individual. You may have to stay with relatives or find a hotel temporarily. Make sure not to take this lying down. A man needs to fight back when someone brings a false accusation against them. If you’re not guilty, then you can strenuously object to what’s happening to you, and you ought to be able to prove it in court if it comes to that.

  • Are Convicted Felons Eligible to Vote in the Upcoming Elections?

As the nation counts down the days until the 2020 Presidental elections, a lot of topics concerning voter suppression and systematic racial have come to the forefront. More so, after the racial uprisings concerning discrimination against people of color and police brutality. And as the American citizens continue discussions surrounding these topics, and what the candidates will do to help, the issue of can convicted felons vote has been brought up. It is an accepted thought in American society that convicted felons cannot vote. However, a few advocacy groups have come out to debunk this notion and help felons regain their right to vote. The truth is that convicted felons are able to vote, once they finish their sentence (including probation and restitution), and adhere to their state’s guidelines for voter restoration. According to the Campaign Legal Center, many states have some restrictions on felon voter rights, but most states restore those rights after the person completes their sentence. The center estimates that approximately 18 million Americans with past convictions are eligible to vote, but don’t know it. In recent news, former NFL player and convicted felon Michael Vick was able to regain his right to vote, paying off all of his fines from his 2007 federal conviction from being involved in a dogfighting ring. “It’s not an easy process to have your voting rights restored or retained,” Vick said. “You just have to take the initiative and be proactive.” "In 2011 some of my friends and family members went to vote, and I was kind of naive to what my voting rights were. I was planning on going, and I found out that because I had a felony on my record, that I couldn’t vote. That was just one of the things that I did not know, you know -- was taken away from me once I was incarcerated and had a felony on my record.” With his voter rights restored, Vick, and other Black athletes and artists, have formed More Than a Vote to fight against voter suppression and bring awareness to voter restoration. Information provided by the National Conference of State Legislature shows: In 16 states, felons lose their voting rights only while incarcerated, and receive automatic restoration upon release. In 21 states, felons lose their voting rights during incarceration, and for a period of time after, typically while on parole and/or probation. Voting rights are automatically restored after this time period. Former felons may also have to pay any outstanding fines, fees or restitution before their rights are restored as well. In 11 states felons lose their voting rights indefinitely for some crimes, or require a governor’s pardon in order for voting rights to be restored, face an additional waiting period after completion of sentence (including parole and probation) or require additional action before voting rights can be restored. In the District of Columbia, Maine and Vermont, felons never lose their right to vote, even while they are incarcerated. In other headline news, billionaire and former presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg raised over $16 million in an effort to restore voting rights to convicted felons in Florida, with the help of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition The organization estimates that Bloomberg’s efforts have already paid off monetary obligations for 32,000 felons. Florida passed a law in 2018 reinstating voting rights for felons that dictated they could register only if they pay all fines, fees and restitution — sometimes totaling more than $1,000 — owed to the government.

  • Chris Paul Enrolls at Winston-Salem State to Promote Student Voting and HBCU Awareness

NBA player Chris Paul reportedly enrolled at Winston-Salem State University as a method to not only encourage students to vote but also provide services that help them with the process. While many outlets reported the 35-year-old’s status as a new student at the Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Paul confirmed the news during an ESPN interview. “Just about everybody in my family went to an HBCU except for me,” Paul said. “When Stephen A. talks about Winston-Salem State, that’s near and dear to my heart. For me, it’s been about trying to give a voice to HBCUs.” The announcement was made during HBCU week, which is meant to encourage high-school-aged youth to enroll in HBCUs, while also advocating for scholarship dollars and undergraduate opportunities for students. “Everyone doesn’t always know about HBCUs and why they were created, and I just try to bring attention to them,” Paul said. He enrolled in online classes at Winston-Salem State during the first week of the NBA playoff. Though he previously attended Wake Forest University, he left during his sophomore year to play in the NBA. However, both of his parents are Winston-Salem State alumni. Paul and other players are working to provide transportation to voting sites for students who attend HBCUs. “We are providing transportation to HBCU students to get (to) polls so we are working on that now,” Paul said. Winston-Salem State is aware of Paul’s activities and supports his decision to effect change as a student. “To see that he’s helping get students to the polis is a big deal because he wanted to make sure everybody gets that chance to vote,” James DuBose, an associate athletics director at WSSU, told the Winston-Salem Journal. During the NBA playoffs, Paul showed his support of HBCU’s by wearing different shoes representing schools such as Winston-Salem State, North Carolina A&T and N.C. Central. While he is currently a player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, many are wondering if Paul is planning to leave the team anytime soon. With two years left on his contract, he stands to make approximately $44,000,000. Not too long ago, Paul led the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), as president, in the protest against racial discrimination and police brutality that stopped causing a lot of teams to opt-out of playing.

  • Singer/Songwriter Major. Lends His Voice to BET'S Voting Initiative

With one of the most important elections for the future of our country weeks away, registration and voter encouragement drives are more prevalent than ever. Recently, celebrities have used their platforms to raise awareness. Singer Major. partnered with BET Networks for their National Black Voters Registration Day that urged our community to get out and vote. When we talked about why his collaboration with BET was so important, Major. says: That was the first annual Black voters day and it was really to encourage us African Americans to get to the polls, to get registered so that we can have a voice in the conversation. What's been happening is you get a lot of people that are pissed off at what's not going right, but a lot of people are not apart of making the change. The way we make the change is by making sure we are apart of the voting power and you do that by registering to vote. Our ancestors fought too long and hard for this opportunity. Less than 60 years ago that wasn't a luxury and now it's absolutely available to us. Let's start voting. Let's make sure our voices are heard. Why do you think that this year is more important than any for us to get out and vote and specifically target our Black men to vote? 2020 has revealed the value of us being engaged in demanding and moving forward the change that we need, I don't know what other examples you need. The only positive I can thank this administration for is revealing the racism and the bigotry. It's starting to reveal who is not for you and who is for you and that's on both sides. When people start to think something is going to take away their privilege they start acting up and their true colors start to show. How can people funnel through fake news? Remember to do your research on your candidates. A lot of people are repeating things that they heard. We need to get out of the space of repeating what we heard when we can't back it up. We will perish without knowledge. Do the work. It is not difficult to go to the candidate's website and see their plans and initiatives. To hear the full interview see below or for more on Major. check out his on Instagram, check him out here.
