“That’s what college football is all about,” Orange head coach, Dino Barbers said.

Quarterback Eric Dungey threw for 311 yards and rushed for a career-high 106, while leading the Orange to its first win over a ranked opponent since 2012.

Even more impressive, Syracuse converted four of five fourth-down opportunities against the nation’s third ranked defense.

“We went back to the things that worked,” Babers said. “We knew they were going to be pressing, we’re just playing. We wanted to get into the fourth quarter where we had a chance to win the game.”

After trailing through three quarters, the Hokies scored with a touchdown, later converting on a two-point play to tie the score at 17.

But Syracuse would respond, scoring 14 unanswered points to seal the victory.

The Orange (3-4, 1-2) hope to carry the momentum from this win as they travel to play Boston College on October 22.
