Hot 97 Brings “Peter Palooza VI” to the Knockdown center

Last Thursday, the whole Hot 97 family put together a birthday concert for beloved DJ, Peter Rosenberg. This is the sixth edition of what has become known as “Peter Palooza,” but the first time back in New York since 2015. Bringing it to the Knockdown Center in Brooklyn was one of Rosenberg’s main points of emphasis.

Rosenberg said of bringing the event back to New York,

Since we haven’t done PeterPalooza in NYC since 2015, my brother Nick and I thought this was a good opportunity to change things up. This year we highlighted talent that we think are at the forefront of a new movement and did the event in a real New York neighborhood with a local New York promotion partner. Most importantly everyone on the bill were artists I listen to.”

Larry Legend emceed the event. Special guests included Mark Henry (WWE), Smoke DZA, The Kid Daytona, Skyzoo, Lauriana Mae, Chris Rivers, Meyhem Lauren, Laura Stylez (Hot 97), Ebro (Hot 97), DJ Enuff (Hot 97), Hip Hop Mike (Hot 97), Par-City, Iman, Big Bz, King Bless, and Scottie Beam. Music was provided by Hot 97 DJs DJ Juanyto, DJ E. Stylez, Megan Ryte, and DJ Kastone.

The Show popped off with an energetic performance from Jay IDK. From the DMV, Jay began his performance with a dead president over his face. Although, there was nothing dead about his performance.

Immediately followed up by Westside Gunn & Conway, there was never a dull moment. When an act wasn’t on stage a plethora of DJ’s made sure there was always beats coming out of their speakers. There may not have been a single moment of dead air.

Backed by the star power of Harlem natives A$AP Ferg and Dave East, there were a number of surprise performances for the hundreds in attendance.

Some of those surprise performers included members of the A$AP Mob, Kid Daytona, Skyzoo and Vic Mensa. However, the biggest surprise came when Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ jumped on stage. Joining Nyck Caution and Kirk Knight on stage to perform the last song on their set. Joined as well by rapper CJ Fly, all four are part of the “Pro Era” Collective which is based out of New York.

Finally, after several unexpected but much-appreciated performances and as the clock strummed towards midnight, the headliners took the stage.

And with that, we say Happy Birthday Peter Rosenberg! Hopefully, PeterPalooza will find its way back to NYC in 2018.
