Atlanta will host Super Bowl in 2019

ATLANTA—The Super Bowl will return to Atlanta as the Falcons and their stadium will play host to the big game in 2019.

The decision was announced on Tuesday by the National Football League—three Super Bowls were up for grabs—and Atlanta’s odds of landing one seemed to be exceptional. The selection was made official and the countdown can begin for Super Bowl LIII.

The Atlanta Falcons came away with the 2019 Super Bowl just before the bid for Miami was announced the winner for 2020.

The Big Peach will host its third Super Bowl; however, it will be the first time the city hosts the Super Bowl in its new $1.4 billion stadium, which will be open for operation beginning in 2017. The last two big games took place in the Georgia Dome.

League owners have been rewarding cities that have built a new stadium for their teams, including Miami and Los Angeles.

Last year’s big game was played in Santa Clara, California, where the 49ers built a stadium. Minneapolis will host next year’s Super Bowl in their new stadium, which begins operation this season.
