Leslie Odom Jr., the Tony- and Grammy-winning actor who originated the role of Aaron Burr in Hamilton, is officially returning to Broadway. Odom made the announcement live on TODAY, confirming he’ll take the stage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre for a limited 12-week engagement, running from September 9 through November 23, 2025.
“You don’t get shows that run 10 years,” Odom told TODAY host Savannah Guthrie, reflecting on Hamilton‘s milestone anniversary. “There are a lot of shows we love, great shows, that they come and they go — that’s the nature of the theater. So for something to be embraced by the public and the culture, and the way that Hamilton has and the way that Rent was — it’s twice in a lifetime.”
Odom’s return is symbolic, not only because he helped launch Hamilton into a cultural phenomenon back in 2015, but also because he has not reprised the role of Burr on Broadway since departing in July 2016.
His voice in The Room Where It Happens became one of the musical’s most iconic moments, both narratively and vocally.
“Returning to Hamilton is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” Odom said in a press release. “I’m so grateful for the chance to step back into the room — especially during this anniversary moment and to revisit this brilliant piece that forever changed my life and the lives of so many.”
The new block of tickets for Hamilton, which has been running continuously at the Richard Rodgers Theatre for the past decade, went on sale today at hamiltonmusical.com.
Since leaving Hamilton, Odom has carved out a multi-faceted career that spans film, television, music, and literature. His acting credits include standout performances in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Harriet, Abbott Elementary, and the recent Broadway revival of Purlie Victorious.
He’s also released five studio albums, authored a memoir (Failing Up), and co-wrote a children’s book with his wife, I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know.
