Marvel Studios Considers Jonathan Majors’ Return as Kang the Conqueror

Jonathan Majors - Kang the Conqueror

Marvel Studios is reportedly considering bringing back Jonathan Majors to the MCU.

Majors, who played the villain Kang the Conqueror, was previously set to be a central figure in upcoming Marvel projects, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, following his conviction on assault charges in December 2023, Marvel parted ways with the actor, leading to major changes in storylines within the MCU.

According to an exclusive from ScreenGeek, sources say Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is contemplating Majors’ return to properly conclude Kang’s storyline.

The proposed plan involves Majors appearing in a future Marvel project to tie up loose ends related to his character. This consideration comes after substantial reconfigurations, including rebranding Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday and introducing Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, replacing Kang as the primary antagonist.

Majors’ legal troubles began in March 2023 after an altercation with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, leading to his conviction on two misdemeanor charges. Following his sentencing to a 52-week domestic violence intervention program, Marvel Studios decided to sever ties with the actor. This decision prompted a pivot within the MCU, focusing on Doctor Doom as the new central villain.

Despite Majors’ legal challenges, he is set to star in the upcoming film Magazine Dreams, scheduled for theatrical release on March 21, 2025. The film, which premiered at Sundance two years prior, faced delays due to Majors’ legal issues but has since been picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment.

We look forward to seeing what Marvel’s next move is, hopefully with the inclusion of the Kang character.
